Gerrard to the Dolphins. Really, they now have to be on the short list of the worst run organizations in sports.

David Garrard is actually a decent quarterback. The Jaguars are a much worse run organization for releasing Garrard (who went to the Pro Bowl in 2010) and starting a scrub like Gabbert instead.

My gut tells me Garrard is just one in the line of overhyped, black, superathlete "quarterbacks" - began w/ Kordell Stewart in Pittsburgh, and followed w/ Donovan McNabb, Vince Young (who was the best coming out of college, I think), Michael Vick (who's admittedly been good - minus that whole prison thing - but never won anything), now Cam Newton, etc. They run, they throw, they can catch, yada yada yada.

I've enjoyed following Manning's career. Still got a rookie card or two stashed somewhere. Hope he blows up in Denver. Will be interesting to see how fast Broncos fans forget all about Tebow (who REALLY was never cut to be a good NFL quarterback). Arm strength, mechanics, completion percentage were all always lacking. He has an amazing spirit, and you can tell he burns to be a team leader, but he's just not cut out for it. He'll make a big/decent money move somewhere, and flame out.

Caveat - unless he swallows some pride, sits on the Denver bench and lets Manning work with him for the next few years. Sure, playing years will dwindle, but I'd bet he'd emerge a different player.

EDIT: Forgot to add Dante Culpepper to that list ^. Couldn't remember his name initially.

Sigh, please don't quote me. I don't think he is a racist, I just think he is an idiot.

He also didn't take into account all of the overhyped white QB's who have been a bust out of college. The sample size for black QB's is more limited.

my gut tells me tim tebow is a white quarterback.

Oh my goodness people.

@Stitch - I had forgotten about that whole controversy. Touché.

A stab at "black" quarterbacks is not what I intended. I've loved watching guys like Randall Cunningham (even as a running-qb), Warren Moon, etc. over the years. They've been great quarterbacks and helped to define their eras. This newer model of running-throwing-doeverything player, most typically personified by, yes, young african-american qbs was what I was trying to dig at. You can include Tebow in that list too, I suppose.

And why isn't McNabb overrated? He had a string of 3-4 good seasons in the early 2000s (with a really strong team backing him up) and then fizzled out.

@Bhowie - you're right on that. There's been an epically larger number of "white" busts.

@jrd617 - c'mon man. Really? One can't express an opinion w/o getting the race card played?

McNabb was a top 5 quarterback for several years and did take his team to a Super Bowl. Newton is on a lousy team but showed great promise as a rookie.

Garrard is a decent quarterback. It's not like there are a ton of great choices for quarterback right now, and I certainly think it's a better choice than getting into a bidding war over Alex Smith ffs. It's not like Miami was a quarterback away from an AFC championship.

Jacksonville is probably going to trade a bunch of picks for Tim Tebow. That is a badly run team.

Newton had a fan-fucking-tastic season, his rookie year at that.

Vick had a great 2010 season. His season this year sucked, I think a lot of this is from the team and not solely on him.
