how much of this yall think is Elway wanting to make sure he remains THE Broncos all time qb great?

SF will be better without him.

Hmm, 49ers seemed like been a better match on paper. Good defense + good coach + Randy Moss = big payoff.

I think two things came into play for Manning. One, he knows AFC teams better, so he has a leg up there. Two, apparently the Broncos already had a plan to enact if they got Manning, so now they are going out to add players he likes.

Manning probably knows something the rest of us don't. I just like the idea of Manning and Moss on the same team...

I wouldn't be surprised if the Patriots make a run for a trade of Tebow - I'm sure Bellicheck would find a use for him (yet another huge super athletic tight end/Full back/wildcat "QB" on trick plays).

Yup. Rumors for Tebow are Jacksonville (home town area) and Miami. Thank god I'll be leaving either way.

Tebow's going to "command" too much of a salary for the Patriots to waste cap space on him. I say "command" not because of his throwing ability but because his agent will spin him as the pro football god who brought Denver back from the ashes.

Also, Manning in SF would have been a much better deal. Vernon Davis, Mario Manningham, Randy Moss, Frank Gore... that's a very beastly offense with him commanding it. And they're all seasoned veterans used to learning new systems. I don't know how well Denver will adapt to his unorthodox "call every play at the line" style of QB.

The Hawks overpaid on Matt Flynn. The guy's thrown 100 balls in the NFL, get off his nutsack before proclaiming him the next Manning or Brady.

Lastly, the MN Vikings are a fucking disappointment. Absolutely no useful roster moves. Where's the meeting with DBs, Safeties? The second market for them is pretty deep and they are absolutely miserable at those positions.

Still, I'm glad to see that the ownership was willing to go for him though. For a several years Jed York (who married into the ownership) was seen as not being willing to spend and as being to involved in managerial decision.
All signs point to he having learned his lesson.

I'm sure the 'Niners thought about what would happen if they pissed off Alex and still did not get Manning. Maybe Kap has looked great in practice. As someone put it, Kap can hand off to Gore 25 times a game and throw the ball into the dirt on third and "manageable" as well as anyone.

After 7 years of Alex Smith, just about any option at starter seems more legitimate. Like NorCal said, I'm sure they've planned this out - going public with Manning and then ostracizing Smith. I don't think they would've gambled on that publicity unless there was a contingency plan.

Not sure if serious, nobody's saying he's going to be a superstar right out of the gate. They really didn't pay that much for him, and even if he turns out to be a mediocre quarterback he'll still be better than the Tarvaris Jackson/Clipboard Jesus combo. The Seahawks desperately needed a QB, and he was probably the best out of all the FA's with the exception of Manning.

I originally read $10m/year, which is why I thought they drastically overpaid. $10m guaranteed over 3 years is about right for him.
