LA Times "Battle of the Burgers"

Some of these look pretty good. May try the Mexican burger.

I can tell that without foodguy, that article would have been terrible. He probably came up with it at the stories meeting, helped guide the writer throughout the process, coaxing out the finest points of his craft, etc. etc. etc. (kinda homo).

thanks for the props ed, but ... kinda. we do these contests a couple times a year ... they're fun for the readers and the marketing department loves them. there really isn't any story to it ... just readers and their recipes. it's always fun ... the winners get to come down and see the test kitchen and have their pictures taken, etc.
testing and tasting the burgers was an all-day thing ... and i've got to say that i like all of the burgers we chose, but my taste in burgers is all about the beef, rather than the accompaniments (readers chose the top 20 and we tested from those). if you want a REALLY great burger, try this one.

What a timely link! I'll be giving this a whirl over the holiday weekend. Thanks!

Gotta say...best burgers are made in a skillet. Not a grill. I've had enough burgers to know this is a fact.

As do I, for what little that is worth.

I disagree. There is no "best burger." Sometimes I want skillet, sometimes I want a charcoal grill. Ed also thinks that the best burgers in the world have shitty American cheese on them, so don't hitch your wagon to his trailer too quickly.

No. I don't. If I want a cheeseburger, that is often what I want.

However, the best burger by far is 21 Club's. Fact.
