running watch

ok, I want a watch (or watchlike device that I can wear while running) that will help me keep track of my pace and/or speed and heartrate. I don't really like running on a treadmill, but I like that I have constant feeback about my speed, so that I get pushed to run faster.

as cheap as possible, as light as possible.

please advise me.

Go to the polar website. Check the features you need and pick the watch that meets them all. Plenty of places to get them at less then MSRP once you've picked a model. If you want pace etc you'll likely want a GPS model. That means middle of the pack or higher so not the really cheap ones.

I'd also go for a watch with a hr monitor AND a gps function, Z, so there's a visual representation of the distance, elevation, etc.. of your running. my biking buddies and friends that run use either the garmin forerunners or suunto m1's. they're light but not cheap... around $200 retail excluding the heart rate monitor.

suunto, polar, timex ironman, nike. though i've had nike and it hasn't held up well. i dunno if the functions you want are expensive. i'd imagine a lil bit like acidboy sez.

I've got a Garmin Forerunner 110 and it's great. GPS-based, giving you pace, time, elevation and heart rate (if you have the heart rate monitor). Worth the money IMO

perfect. any idea how much?

You should consider the new Nike+ Sportswatch GPS. Does all of the above mentioned by the garmin forerunner 110. Only came out a couple months ago too. Retails for 199 I believe.

$210 with the heart rate monitor (it's $160 without)

I didn't bother with the monitor personally... all I wanted to know was how far and how fast.

Haven't seen the new Nike+, but if it's GPS then worth having a look at it. In any case, I find reviews on amazon quite good generally. Good luck

cool thank you very much

I dunno about monitoring speed or HR, but my basic Timex Ironman 100 lap is enough for me. The most important feature I use is interval timers. The watch is only $28 on Amazon too.
