Late 2000s, has to be Knocked Up or Superbad (same reason - you can't turn around without seeing Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, etc.).

X-Men, Spiderman, or Batman Begins (whichever came first), which led to damn near every Marvel comic book hitting the big screen in the past few years.

Some good comments in here but Swingers came out in 96. Plus it definitely has more of a 90's feel to it in general...

There is way too much funny shit in that movie for me to dislike it, but there is something that always irked me about it, and the review by The Filthy Critic nailed it: one of the main themes is that celebrities are stupid and we shouldn't listen to their opinions about the war, when the movie is chock full of Parker and Stone's celebrity opinions about the war. Personally, I think Parker and Stone should stick to dick jokes. They are really funny when they stay in their depth but they come off as half bright dicks when they try to get preachy.

have you seen the Broadway musical "the book of Mormon"? its preachy (the ridiculousness of religion) and funny as hell, and in broadway musical form too... parker and stone production as well. its wildly successful.

I've heard a lot of good things and I'm sure it's hilarious. The two of them are really good at being funny, I just don't think they are all that insightful about politics, ethics, or the like and they clearly think that is their strength.

the 00's were from the age of 16-26 for me, so any movie that comes to mind for that decade is inherently a dumb comedy...

Superbad
Wedding Crashers
40 y/o Virgin
Anchorman
The Hangover (to a lesser extent)
Step Brothers
Jackass movies

Oh, and +1 on Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou...love that movie.

The Royal Tenenbaums completely changed the way I feel about movies. I know it might not be that great, but it hit me at just the right age.

Same with The Big Lebowski. (an naught movie set in the 90s)

Lebowski was '98. Definitely my favorite movie, cliche as it might be to say so.

I loved Rushmore but Tenenbaums was a movie that I admired more than loved. I think Anderson's movies have been downhill since then. Darjeeling Express was too precious by half, but maybe I have just grown old and cynical about such things.
