The lower the production values, the better!

My two selections would be Less Than Zero (oddly prophetic for RDJ too) and Wall Street.

Yours?

Metropolitan. Ok, not really, but in my dreams I am a young UES WASP in the 1980s.

Wall Street is a good choice. Raiders is another, and of course ET. Back to the Future is not a great film but is very "80s." Die Hard. But for sheer "Eightiesness" my vote goes to Top Gun.

I would add as well Terms of Endearment, because is the rare non-blockbuster that made a shitload of money and also the rare critically acclaimed Oscar-winner that was widely popular.

Trading Places - I was a kid in the 80s, but I imagine they were just like that movie.

Top Gun is another great defining choice.

I agree with Manton - you can't beat Top Gun for pure, unfiltered Eightiesness.

Good times, yo. Good times.

But the 80s overall was a lackluster decade for movies bookended by two great ones: 70s and 90s.
