any help/input is greatly appreciated im shopping for a new suit and have been eyeing one of the rlbl suits. i went to try one on yesterday but nobody had them in stock they said they will get the eventually. so im trying to figure out roughly my size. i have a 40R hugo boss slim fit suit that i got two years ago. based on this thread (http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=251340) i tried to measure my suit the same way for comparison, i came up with p2p-21, shoulder-18, sleeve-26, and boc 31. here are a couple pictures of the suit, the pics are bad but i thought i got a descent shot of sleeve length and general fit

so when i compare the measurements of mine to some of the rl suits pl or bl that are bigger it seems like mine has longer sleeves or longer boc then others im basically looking for thoughts opinions, and answers to what parts of jackets can be altered, like i know the sleeves can be taken out usually, but could the shoulders be taken in or out? same with the chest, how much room would i have if a jacket is a little too big or small in different places im also heavily considering ordering this http://cgi.ebay.ca/New-RALPH-LAUREN-...#ht_2179wt_907

Ignore sleeves unless they are extremely too short. Sleeves normally are adjusted. Both shorter and to a lesser extent longer. Assuming there is enough material.

What are you wearing a towel under that jacket? Looks way too short. Likely too tight in the chest. Hard to tell anything about the shoulders

It's really difficult to offer a ton of advice based on those pictures. As a bit of general advice: It's certainly easy to adjust sleeve length, but you should really try to get a good fit in the shoulders off the rack.

I agree. A fit in the shoulders is a must.

Looks short enough to be a bolero jacket.

None taken at all I'm here looking for suggestions and help. I'm 6'1" 195. Looking for specifically what parts are small or short, just so i know for when I go try a size up to know what to be looking for exactly.

Too tight and too short. Agree with the 42L suggestion, try that one on and see if that looks better.

Make sure that the coat fits in the shoulders and that it's long enough.

Sleeves can be adjusted, and the waist can be taken in.

You don't look like you have a particularly long torso and with your size measurements, a long seems unnecessary. I think you should be looking for suits that tend to run longer than most. I'd say you need a 31" BOC, which is a long in some, and a regular in others.

From a fit perspective, a 42R Paul Smith should probably work well for you. Quality wise is is solid, yet unspectacular. It is miles ahead of your Hugo Boss.

As others mentioned, I don't think RLBL is a cut for you.

Skip the RLBL. Upsizing will most probably mean that the shoulders be too wide. RLBL is too slim for you. Consider a different line of suits that are a bit more generously cut and save yourself some alteration costs.

Thanks for all the responses so far. Besides the Paul smith what are some other thoughts? I was tinking one of the Brooks brothers suits but don't really know much about those or how they compare to other brands. Rlbl wasn't set in stone for me it's just a suit i really liked.

Brooks Brothers does several different lines of suits, so you can't really comment generally on their suits. Some of theirs are slimmer/more athletic, and others are fuller--unless you're super skinny, you should find a suit that fits you well there.

Generally, you should be fine with taking in up to two inches in the waist on a pair of pants. However, it also depends on the cut of the pants and your body shape. You'll have to check on how the seat is and how the legs are--if it's truly just the waist that needs to be taken in, but everything else looks perfect, then that's fine. If it looks like after taking in the waist your seat is also huge, then it's probably not a good fit for you.
