I'd buy on Clist before eBay, so you can actually see it in person. Look out for scratches or nicks (especially on the cooking surface.... on the outside would be cosmetic so who cares, unless it's a huge gash). Also, if the piece isn't one solid piece, make sure the connection between handle and pan itself is strong.

Go for it. As long as it's in good condition quality cookware will last forever.

Depends on the model. A casserole dish would normally be made of slightly thicker and heavier material. It may still suit your purpose but depending on the model you may have to adjust your cooking technique.

15.5 inches by probably... 10 or 11 inches by 5.5 inches deep... unless you're cooking a casserole for 100 people, that's not so bueno.

I have a Sitram paella pan and use it the way I'd use a large skillet or roasting pan.

My mom bought her cast iron skillet about 20 years ago when it was already 20+ years old. That thing blows all of my pans out the water: it's as non-stick as you can get and you can sear the hell out of a piece of meat on it. I have no experience with purchasing used but certainly wouldn't be opposed to it.
