Formalwear Q: Braces - White or Black?

With a standard black or midnight blue tux, are both white and black braces appropriate? Or do they have to match the color of the bowtie?

Thanks,

Theoretically, they should never be seen, so you could wear neon green if you're not taking your jacket off. To answer your question, according to TPTB, black or white silk, or a combination of the two, are appropriate choices.

daniel craig rocks the white braces and black bowtie well in casino royale. i'm a fan of matching the bowtie, but poster above is correct... you're never actually supposed to see someone's braces, so wear what you think looks good.

Again, never seen, so it's your choice.

That being said, I chose white so that I may wear them with a white DJ without showing through.

Black or white moire braces are equally acceptable. Boxcloth are not.

Personally I think black more appropriate with black tie but since Craig wore white in the film I sell twice as many white as black.

How about if a gentleman needs to remove his jacket in order to defend a lady's honor? Either color works though, but I would stay away from neon green.

is silk preferred or is nylon/cotton ok (what will sells)?

if so, who sells pure silk braces for black tie?

Mine are burgundy. They match my socks. I know, I know, I'm wild and crazy.

I believed black tie with black braces, white tie with white braces. That's the rule I followed over the years.
