Levi's sub $25 selvage?

Levi's is selling their 514 slim straight Conflict jeans at a nice low price of $24.90 and you can apply a coupon code for 10% off. Anyways, looks like it is selvage denim + seems to be confirmed by the review on the levi's page

"The fit on these is really good. It has slightly less tilt in the waist, and rides a little lower than 501's. The

selvage denim is definately a deal maker. Back pockets are significantly larger than their 501 counteparts...<snip>" I'd cut the goofy pocket off the left leg but other than that this seems like a steal for even a cheapo dark indigo selvage jean (and c'mon levi's isn't so bad anyways). here's the link: http://us.levi.com/product/index.jsp...=conflict&sr=1 Does anyone know it's actually selvage? I have seen Levis offering "selvedge-like" jeans in their outlets with white & red stitching on the outseam to emulate selvedge seams and faux-Japanese characters on the cardboard tag (ie. at first glance looks like a pair of LVC) - very douche-like of Levis. Not sure if this is one of those pairs.

Looks like selvedge to me, but I'd really recommend you save up for a truly nice pair of selvedge jeans. They will quickly become your most worn article of clothing (they have for me, at least), so you should hold off and buy something you really love.

Well, I just ordered a pair. If they're selvage, it'll be my first ever pair If not I don't care, I love the fit of the 514's anyways.

Let's stop being noobs for five seconds. 1) Post in the denim thread. 2) These are pretty awful jeans, regardless of what fabric was used to create them. I'm not huge on jeans that don't have contrast stitching (sorry, EP) because they look more like slacks than jeans, but wtf is up with that zipper pocket? Same designer that did this probably was behind the ipod jeans. Those were fucking tasty. 3) You honestly expect these jeans to be selvage at $25 when the other jeans that Levi's clearly advertises as selvage go for double and more? 4) Those don't look selvage and the dude who wrote that review isn't a rocket scientist if he believes that Levi's ruined a high-end pair of jeans with a zipper fly instead of buttons. The seams look taped. 5) Is the fact that they're (not) selvage the only reason why you're even bothering with these? I don't know where to begin with that one.

called them and they said its not selvage, its just rigid and will shrink on you

I recommend you read one of several denim faq threads. Not being a dick (this time) but look up "sanforized," which is what these jeans are.

Where are the denim faqs, and why did she say they'd shrink if they're sanforized? I don't see Levi's claiming anywhere that they're sanforized.

Seriously, look at the stickied denim thread in the forum. Look at the last page, scroll up. You need to google "sanforized jeans" again. Levi's doesn't need to claim it, they are. Levi's would need to claim it if they weren't. Fuck, xchen. If I buy a ticket to GA, will you pay for the bullet?
