How the hell do you guys deal with your cotton pants in the summer?

All all of my work pants are wool which doesn't wrinkle much and is good for multiple wearings and occasional cleanings. For casual pants, I usually wear jeans which wear well and are only washed, well, never.

Now, thanks to SF, I'm starting to add more chinos and cotton pants into the mix. However, I find that they are only good for one wearing as they get wrinkled and show dirt. They are a pain to wash and iron and I can't be bothered to take them to the cleaners all of the time.

Granted, I have two large dogs, which doesn't help but I feel like I'm missing something here. Do SF members wear chinos around the house, park, neighborhood? If so, what is the secret to keeping them looking fresh? I also travel a lot and unlike jeans, with chinos you need a backup pair of pants for when they get stained.

I hate, hate, hate the wrinkles. Not to get all DT, but sometimes I over-caffinate and have to take a dump as soon as I get to work. If I'm wearing cotton trousers, I spend the whole day wrinkled.

not sure what you do in your cotton pants, but my pants are just fine form regular wearing.

I tend to wash mine when needed - try it sometime.

Why is this even a thread?????

Get some cotton pants that are treated to be no iron or wrinkle resistant. I still wash and iron mine after each wearing but it does not take very much effort.

I'm detecting a lack of commitment to sartorial matters.

BB Advantage Chinos. They refuse to wrinkle.

Try linen pants. They never wrinkle.

Yeah, my bitches (dogs) climb on my lap and don't give a crap about sartorial matters.

Cotton/cashmere or cotton/wool blends stand up to wear better if you insist on cotton. What's wrong with wearing tropical wools in the summer?

Train your dogs.

In addition, since I travel almost every week, I find a washing machine and iron don't usually fit in overhead compartments which means that I usually leave the chinos at home for traveling and I have to resort to (gasp)... jeans for casual wear.

I guess my point is, I can't replace the practicality of jeans, unless the BB pants are the ticket.

The wrinkles lend cotton trousers a certain amount of casual informality. I view that as an asset depending on the situation. Avoidance of wrinkles at all times in all situations seems like a popular view on men's clothing forums and I feel that view is misguided. If you don't want that informality or just don't want wrinkles, choose a more naturally wrinkle-resistant material like wool.

Your issue is your dogs. Overcaffeinated-boy's issue is OCD. Wear cotton if you don't mind feeling schlubby. Otherwise tropical wool is lighter and breathes better.
