I agree. I keep up with your Austro-Hungarian shoe thread. I want to get over to Vienna and get a pair made at some point in my life. We are down to a couple of bespoke shoemakers here in Graz. I asked one owner of a shoe store and he said you can still apprentice at a couple of places in Styria. Bespoke tailors, on the other hand, are not hard to find here.

Most lizards have some sort of crest or ruff along the back--something like the dorsal fin on a fish. Some reptile is cut such that the back is visible--hornback alligator, hornback lizard. But the effect is quite garish and the back tiles quite large and obvious.
As a result most reptile is cut along the backbone, the hornback tiles removed, and the belly preserved to create the effect seen on these shoes.

riccardo says it is the back
he specifically asked for it

That's great! It's from the KD store, but an Italian originally bought it. He never wore it, and offered to sell it to me. I was thrilled at the chance. I had seen his work before, but never jackets. Does he make a lot of motorcycle jackets? I really love the (linen?) lining, the color is great. It's now happily living in Austria waiting for a proper motorcycle trip and it fits like a glove. When did he make it?

Thanks for the added information, I really appreciate it. I can't wait until I can commission a pair myself. I'm currently putting a bit off to the side to have something done. Keep coming with the pictures, they're definitely giving me some ideas of what I want!

Also, I knew this jacket could stop a bullet. It never occurred to me that it was horsehide. I'm now googling how to better take care of it! Thanks again!
