top of my foot hurts

I've been increasing my mileage and have been running 5 miles as opposed to my measly 3.5 over the past few weeks. Within the past week or two I've noticed some pain on the top of my foot, I guess, the top of the arch. It feels sore now and when I run it almost hurts. It's not a terrible pain by any stretch, but it's uncomfortable.

I wear a few different pairs of sneakers, some kind of fancy Nike Vomero that I had specially selected for me at a running store in Philly (hot sales assistant, too), and then a couple pairs of NikeFreeRunners. I notice more discomfort with the FreeRunners now but the pain started with the Vomero and I wear that at least twice as much when I run as the FreeRunners.

Any thoughts? I'm loathe to take a break from running, if I don't have to do so.

Any swelling or numbness/asleep feeling?

If you take the distance between the base of your toes and your ankle, cut that distance in half - if the pain is within the half closer to your toes, then there's an extremely good chance that you have a stress fracture.

Go see a doctor and get some x-rays.

eugh. In my experience, a stress fracture is noticeable when you press down on the bones in your foot: a particular bone will be tender in a spot, and there's your fracture. Rest, ice, ibuprofen, and rest some more. Watch your calcium intake, and cut out the sodas. Umm, what else? Oh, don't lace your shoes so tightly.

Diabetes is always feasible.

Good feedback. It's at the highest point of my foot very near my ankle. I should probably take some time off, rest, and good ol' ibuprofen. Fortunately, no swelling.

use trainers with smaller heels as close to the ground as possible and walk barefoot whenever you can this will correct your injury which is often caused by the wrong shoes

I prefer Asics for running. http://www.directsportseshop.co.uk/Images/Products/Rear/asics_gel_galaxy_4gs_shoes_lime.jpg
I never had problems with this shoes. Before them I got nike shoes too. But these are better even if they're not really expensive. This is what i can tell you.
Ask the one sold the shoes to you about this.

I've heard the same thing about Asics.
