Never felt the need to block the affiliate ads when they were on top/bottom. They were blocked the moment I saw them just chilling there over on the right.

Pretty dumb to go live with such an "unfinished tweak". Like others have said, the site is pretty useless now for mobile browsing and fucking horrible for browsing while on a iPad.

so these side bar affiliate ads are temporary, correct, Fok? they're sucking up about 20% of the screen!

No, but anyone who has seen the new system will know that the system looks very different from this alpha phase (most people who have seen it like it, a small minority do not)

Also, the text will wrap around the bottom. The right hand column will also be used for other things, like a PM preview, etc...

There is a way to block the ads on the right? How?

Honestly, I never once minded the ads when they were at the top or bottom but these are poorly positioned and waste a ton of screen space for no good reason. Also looks terrible on my iPhone which is how I spend half my time on here. Too bad, this site used to be one of my favorites to visit on my phone....now it's probably the worst of all the forums I go to.

Hopefully when the full new site is released it will be better, but I hate the thought of that stuff staying on the right and eating up so much screen space.

It's not so bad on the final version, only the posts next to the ads are shrunk, once the ads end on the right the posts go back to full size width.

Thanks for that insight Uncontrol. I could see that as being much better at least. Still prefer them on top, but if the posts below the adds are full width then it is probably more tolerable.

yeah the final/preview version was better. i hardly noticed the ads, since the entire system and layout changed and i was distracted by the other new features

i do iwsh the ads were smaller on the right even in the final version though

Why do they have to have 2 ads per row Make it one ad per row and it's good to go

Yeah on iPad and iPhone it takes up a ton of real estate. Smaller ads and/or single row would help a lot

A combination of the adblock plus and element hiding helper addons for firefox will bring the site looking back to how it was before the ads moved. Of course, I would recommend that you disable adblock when the outcry becomes loud enough that the ads are moved back again.
