Actually, the front page will be mostly articles. It will be about 50% original content, and 50% moderated threads by industry and other knowledgeable posters. The articles right now are in the thread form because we did not have the capabilties to make articles per se when those were written. I know what other sites do, but that is not our intent.

I hope that you guys will grow to like the site more. There will be tweaks here and there, but I personally like the sidebar. I always disliked the affiliates in the header. Jeremy thought the other way.

I think that B&S is a huge improvement. It will really allow more efficient browsing. That is effectively a custom build for us. If you have specific issues with that, I'd like to hear them. However, that format was overwhelmingly endorsed.

I've been browsing for a couple of hours now and getting the hang of things, I still like the no-nonsense old SF better but I can deal with the cosmetic changes and other minor temporary annoyances because some of the new features are pretty awesome and I'm sure there's even more to discover. But...

But I can't get over how intrusive the sidebar is. It just looks wrong imho, like a coding mistake, it doesn't make sense visually or UX-wise to me. Some of its content is redundant and the useful parts (PMs and reviews) seems gimmicky there compared to the trade off. I'm pretty sure I'm actually getting subconsciously pissed off at the affiliates for ruining my browsing experience shog%5B1%5D.gif.

If the sidebar was fixed so that the affiliates banners would always stay on screen (not that I'd like that...), I could understand the logic behind it at least . Right now it doesn't seem to offer any advantage over the old top and bottom of the page banner placement (which was pretty much the perfect balance between visibility and clutter imho).

So, I know we're still in the tweaking phase and I fully aknowledge the ginormous work and PITA that thing must've been/is but I feel like that damned sidebar takes away much of all the improvements for no real purpose, and that's a damn shame.

I was just over @ sufu and it felt... nice and straightforward, yeah...

Less but better. Less is more. I'm not mad, I'm just sad.

I lol'd at that.

LA-you should make a category in FS Other for electronics.......a lot of guys put electronics on there (some on there now) but there's no category for it.

We tend to let subforums develop organically - i.e. if there is a critical mass of threads/listings/etc... Right now, we are going to get this transition right, and then we'll start thinking about additions and developments. It's noted though. Other members have asked for the same thing.

Everything looks good except for the sidebar. It's very annoying and takes away from how people naturally read posts and pages.

Another plead for removing the sidebar here... Sorry LA Guy, it just isn't a pleasant browsing experience at all. The little reviews box and how to use the forums tips and all the links do nothing but clutter, taking up like half the space for what I'm actually trying to read. I'm guessing you have to have it that way to generate more revenue or something, because it was perfect the way it was before.

I just want the search function to recognize short words like toj. And being able to sort b&s by brand as well as category would be great as well

Two things.

On the stickied threads, i.e. WAYWT there should be a button to skip to the last page of the thread instead of having to enter the thread and then click to the last page. It's all about less clicks don't you know.

And 2. Each time a page loads, it stutters bad, to the point of crashing sometimes, anyone else noticed this?

I like the changes minus the sidebar (please remove it) and the stickied threads. I don't need half my page taken up by threads I already know are stickied.
If the stickied threads 'box' were removed then the threads wouldn't no longer remain on the top of the forums, they'd no longer be stickied :/

The page loading is really bothering me now though, every page causes my computer to stall for 30-45 seconds, may not sound like much, but the net operates in miliseconds so this is fucking lame.

So just want to make sure I am understanding this correctly -- the new B&S classifieds essentially remove the ability and necessity of price drop bumps, correct?
Just one per week, regardless of whether or not you drop the price.

I understand the need for generating revenues through the ads and I suppose it takes time to get used to something new. It is just that the ads on the right hand side are borderline intrusive and making browsing a mush less pleasant experience compared to the old site. Can they be move to the top or the bottom horizontally? And please make them smaller.

I like the old B&S board, for now. Insisting on one item one thread makes it 100x more important to have a powerful search engine, otherwise with the number of threads exploded upwards browsing will be a pain in the butt. The mega sale threads are my favorite and I will sure miss them with the new system.

The new bells and whistles? Right now they make my head spin and I think the site is slower but it may be just a delusion. Maybe I will get used to the new layout over time. I must say many of the changes were not what I thought needed.

Thanks to the mods for the efforts nevertheless.

The stickied box and page header takes up a full page on my screen - I have to scroll a full page to get to any content. Make it an option, at least, but it's not good design. Content is further shrunk by the sidebar.

Same with buying and selling - it is ridiculous to have to scroll through the guidelines every time you want to view it. Read it once, and have an option to close it, or put them somewhere else.

This.

Also, on my screen there is adequate space between paragraphs in the body of the text in a post but there is no space between the end of the paragraph and the start of the signature line (usually for sale description/pictures).

Edit: actually most of them look fine now, I was referring to signatures like this one:

What do you mean one per week? one what? I am very confused how things work on B&S now. Somewhere earlier in the thread a mod mentioned "50% off package" and I have no clue what he meant. Can any mod post a sticky that explains the difference between the old and the new systems and why the new system is better and how people can benefit from the changes?
