You're welcome. J fixes computers, and I am research faculty at a university. So yes, we do other stuff, though Styleforum related business is consuming more and more time as it grows and as we spend more time in development, both technical and thinking about new ways to encourage greater community participation.

The site will launch on Wednesday. There will be glitches, both technical and otherwise, though we've had over 100 people on the system for close to 2 months now, and the engineers are working overtime to make sure that there are as few glitches as possible come launch. However, as you all know, not even a psychic Steve Jobs could make something come out without some having to implement some fixes, so we'll be continually making fixes and tuning the system for months to come.

Please be patient with us. If you have any concerns, we would love to hear them, as well as suggestions for making the system better. We can't promise anything, but we do listen.

I do a bit of custom programming, and I always take a new program through a drunken test driving phase where I purposely try to reveal weaknesses in it by behaving like an obstreperous idiot. I assume that's how you chose your 100...

I spent some time meeting w/ the transition team in person last week. Great group of people. They seem to care about the forum as much as we do. I think we're in very good hands.

Is the new system now live? I seem to have nasty horizontal scroll bars on my laptop, SF appears to be too wide for the screen, was OK yesterday. Sponsor adverts are now down right side and off the edge of the screen, instead of at the top, this is making the page too wide. Google Chrome and IE on Windows 7. See attached screenshots of how SF now looks on my laptop. Attachment 67710Attachment 67711 ...note sponsor's adverts are hardly visible. This how the SF front page now looks in IE9. Attachment 67712 Something is seriously wrong here. Forum descriptions are extremely squashed at left side, with much blank space in the middle, and again half the sponsor adverts are off the screen. Things are a little bit better with Chrome, but not much.

I see that the advertisements have been moved to the side. This is hardly very good - wide screens were not invented so that one third of their width can be taken up by advertisements to the detriment of the content.

On my computer I'm seeing half of the adverts now, they're off edge of the page in the browser. Quite possibly to the detriment of SF and the all important sponsors. Of course as GBR points out, the content is much narrower as well.

Pages are loading very quickly which is good.

Adverts on side not so good - It's not just that I'm not used to it - it's that over a third of my screen is now adverts and when I scroll down and there are no more ads there is still an empty void of space uselessly sitting there.

Yes, the adverts definitely need to go back at the top.

1024x600 the native resolution of my laptop. Has anyone tried viewing the current SF on a 1024x768 Apple iPad yet? Is that on a desktop PC with quite a large screen?
