I don't know what you guys did during the shift to curb all the spam[1].gif, but it seems to be working. At one point when I was still lurking I remember seeing 16 spam threads just on the first page of MC. Nary one in sight anymore. Kudos.

There must be some way to get an intersection of these two sets...
I thought there was a way, but I can't find it now. I think the consensus in one of these threads was that eventually, people end up using the subscription system instead of 'threads I posted in' because it becomes full of threads you don't really want to keep up with. That's not to say that it wouldn't be a useful function to some, so I will see if I can find out how to do that.

New spam flagging system allows a few 'hall monitors' to report spam and have it immediately hidden from view. Also, a learning filter, Defensio, (which is rather stupid currently, but hopefully, learning) is supposed to sort out obvious HOT BUY CHINA NIKE VIAGRA type stuff.

The subscription system doesn't have this feature either. It always shows all subscriptions. While it highlights the ones with new posts, but it would be better if it hid the already-read ones, with an option to show everything, just like vB used to do.
I know know, I sound like a broken record.

We'll see what we can do. I personally am for as much customization as possible of the way people want to browse the forum. That brings a lot of added complexity though, and probably with decreasing benefit. We will try to find a balance where the majority of people have a good enough browsing experience that they can do what they want without thinking about it too much.

thanks, that would be great.
I don't think the increase in complexity would be huge. At least not compared to the two parallel systems for displaying thread listings that exist on this site that look and work completely differently.

Speaking of subscriptions...

...it would be nice if the subscription page deferred to something like your displayed posts-per-page number or something similar. With only the top 10 or so showing and having to click "more" every ten posts, it feels a bit too much like old facebook. Hell, I'm new here and even I have more subscriptions than that I'd like to be viewing at once. It would also be nice if the page remembered that preference when you navigate back to it using the "back" button in your browser (it currently jumps back to only displaying the top 10, even though the actual display location is correct).

I'm interested to see what the numbers of views per day have been since the change over. The new B&S has cut my own sales thread views by close to 80% and as I buyer I just don't come to SF anymore because the new system has taken all the fun out of it.

Thoughts/recommendations on the new SF.

(1) Still very slow to load. I used to check it--especially the B&S--several times a day at work, but now rarely do because of the long loading delay.

(2) Can you PLEASE move the right-margin advertisements to the top? They create a busy and distracting presentation for the first several threads. And even when the ads disappear, lists of threads are still compressed.

(3) Perhaps because of the one-item-per-thread rule (which might be changing?), the B&S section is now soulless: nobody comments. As someone in another thread remarked, guys used to banter about items.

(4) Overall, the format and functionality changes seemed to have sapped a lot of energy and participation from the site. When something is less easy and fun to use...

PS: I know the reformers had the best of intentions.

Don't know if it will ever change

NEVER going to change

Will be changed

On the old forum, we were able to see when someone was last logged in. Is that gone now?

I have a serious question: the time it takes for me to click between pages, or on to a new subforum, etc. (I think this is what people mean when referring to how long it takes for things to 'load') is anywhere from 10-15 seconds (very fast) to 35-40 seconds. Is this what everyone is experiencing? Would people continue using SF is this was the norm? Frankly, I don't think I will.
