Styleforum Moving to New System! - Page 12

Some quick feedback:

The new forum layouts are really painful to use.

There is WAY too much formatting / vertical padding, and too little content on the screen at any given time.

Where is the Buyers and Seller's Feedback thread?

Also the submit button should be where the "clear" button is when you're posting a new message or replying to a PM

I see it now. It's very faint, at least on my computer. (8 year old laptop until my computer gets fixed tounge.gif )

Is there any way to turn up the contrast?

Anyone else confused by B&S new rules? Each item being listed individually for a set price? How do you list multiple items with different prices for similar items?

If your thread is now in B&S archive, do i just create a new thread?

You can list multiple items if they are less than $25. But they all have to be same type (ties, PS, etc). The list price is the price of the most expensive item.

there is no preview to see what your new thread will look like... i loved that little button

edit: here there is, in the B&S classified not?

I for one, will be completely lost without it. Especially if Styleforum still insists on - in certain thread - refuse to take me to the newest messege, but rather to a messege posted weeks ago...

I get a "go to first new post" icon to the left of the thread. And it gets greyed out after I've read the thread.

EDIT: Durr I'm an idiot, I see the menu now.

I see a filter for category but nothing for size. It would be nice to have tags/filters (size, brand, etc) like on Fit is King.

Also if any mods are reading, the RSS feed on the classifieds pulls all the classifieds even if you have filtered on the various categories.

If you have multiple items, you should make multiple listings. We plan to allow Dutch auction style listings soon, but this will require that the items be identical except for sizes, and be sold for identical prices. There is one exception to the "one listing, one item rule", which is for multiple items under $25 USD shipped.

I often give discounts for bulk purchases, which will be hard to do as buyers may not be able to find all of the items a seller has posted.

You will see on the right hand column that items from the same seller are actually listed, not unlike an Ebay store, but without any additional clicks needed . Additionally, the rules allow you to post links to your other active listings within a single listing, though I don't think that this is necessary, given the feature above.

The speed should be lightning fast within 48 hours. Right now, any Mantonian lags are due to the server working overtime on optimizing search on the backend.

Cheers,

Fok.

I'm a web developer by profession so I know my shit.

Some of the problems on the new layout are:

  • Almost unusable on mobile because of the sidebar. It crushes content to such a narrow area that viewing is difficult on something like the iPhone.
  • On normal displays the sidebar again crushes the content, but this would not be such a big issue if there wasn't so much vertical padding. Even a single line post takes lots of space.
  • The sidebar only has content for about a page. After that it's just whitespace. This tells me that it would work better if it was horizontally on top or a single column vertical. The tags section could just as well be removed, I doubt most people will actually bother using it. Users can also remove the top "tips" or whatever it is section by just clicking the little X at the corner enough times, again reducing the sidebar content.
  • There's some unnecessary crap. There must be like at least 5 different ways to get back to the forum thread listing. The footer is also a bit of a mess with several redundant links.
  • Purely as aesthetic elements the icons are rubbish. I suppose they work for their indicator purpose but they certainly ain't pretty!

I'm sure the admins are still tweaking the site.
