TopCoat Appreciation Thread

My Ceasare Attolini (or CA for LB) fetish continues.
I've been looking for a camel to dark brown 100% cashmere 3 button topcoat in the Attolini coat, and viola, may wait has paid off.
PS I do not plan to button the bottom or top button often.
Please post pics of your top coats. Nothing like 2 quality topcoats.

I figure I can rotate this with this:
I also have a zegna black stripe top coat in a lean cut.

You're saying that as if it's discouraged when it's not. It gives you warmth and that's kinda the whole point of over/top/whatever coats. Very nice find. I can offer amateur pea coat Appreciation since I don't own a top coat... yet. I'm not wearing a jacket under, the armholes are too snug to allow it anyways.

As I do not have a decent topcoat, I cannot contribute to this thread. (The horror, the horror!) Seriously, though - it's next on my wish list.

I must say, I love a nice overcoat. They can create a wonderful silhouette. I've posted a few in recent days in the what are you wearing thread. Sadly I don't have anything quite as nice as the ones already here but:



In order:
Liberty - wool, dark brown, red highlights and lining
M&S - cheap wool blend, black, belted
Paul Smith (PS line) - brown check, black velvet collar, heavy waist suppression
Aquascutum - navy, cashmere/wool/angora blend if I remember right. Might be alpaca rather than angora. Can't remember.

The coat doesn`t look much like Attolini though. The navy coat does though.

Thanks. The shirt was mail-order bespoke from baronboutique.com. The tie was just plain black satin silk from... somewhere or another. It wasn't very expensive.

I just posted my remarks in AAAC. Although there is some overlap in membership, the two fora are hosts to relatively unique crowds. So, with a bit of cutting and pasting as well as some additional remarks I am posting here as well.

AlanC, since your Rothman’s/Eldridge is double breasted, might it not be more appropriately considered an Ulster coat rather than a polo coat (plenty of drape, no buttons, wrap, fully-belted in lieu of buttons) such as the Chris Despos’ polo-inspired model picture above? Your coat’s double breast, patch/flap pockets, and sleeve cuffs scream Ulster. Does the coat have a martingale? The Sulka in my image below is an Ulster. You can’t see the martingale; but, it is there. I remember your exciting discovery thread about that lovely old Oxxford. Both of your veteran coats are wonderful in their own unique manner.

Patience is a virtue, Sophistication. The top image seems almost military. Good choice. That polo coat created by Chris Despos continues to haunt me in a good way. Maybe I need that in a navy blue herringbone?

Iammatt, that’s a lovely overcoat as well. The image isn’t really clear on my monitor. It almost appears that your overcoat has inverted box pleats on each side of the rear. Is that correct? What cloth is that. please?

People don’t believe me when I tell them I wear an overcoat in San Diego a few times each year. I prefer drape in my overcoats. In fact, the only overcoat I have with any silhouette at all is a lightweight double breasted cashmere Sulka (probably made by Brioni) in medium gray that I got sometime around 1998 or so. From amongst our three homes, the closets probably yield three to four overcoats at each location. It’s crazy, but I just love overcoats!
