Gift Ideas Needed

My best friend just had his first baby and I am feeling guilty because I did not send a gift for their baby shower. I want to send them something now to congratulate them but I am not sure what to get. I would rather do something for mom and dad vs. getting them more baby shit that they probably do not need. That said, I am open to anything.

So lets hear some SF approved gift ideas for a first born child.

do something easy like a gift certificate to a "nice" restaurant

What's your budget? One of the best gifts we got were a couple of cartons of diapers.

The problem with this is a lot of new parents will not be going out on a date for quite some time. I think it was at least a year before my wife and I left our first born.

Not sure about budget but I am thinking $100-$200 range. They make pretty good money and have had 2 showers so diapers do not seem like something they will be hurting for.

This is a pretty cool idea. As I said above, new parents are not going to be leaving their new born for quite sometime. Then there is the whole sending a stranger into their house to watch their new baby that might be a turn off.

So you guys have me thinking of ways to get them a break without having to leave the house/baby. Sending a masseuse to their house could be a good idea. I would probably need to coordinate that with my buddy but it is doable. Then mom and dad could take turns getting massaged while the other is watching the baby.

Thoughts? Other ideas?

Didn't look at it like that but he lives in Philly and I live in Indy. Man that would have been a good way to get out on the cheap though.

It's still "stuff," but I'd get the dad a diaper bag that he doesn't have to be ashamed of carrying. Or maybe in your city you can find a chef to come to their house and cook one night so they can enjoy a nice dinner but don't have to leave the baby with a sitter.

Delivery or gift basket of foods the father and mother like? Maybe pie, some steaks, candles, etc, and a fun card for your friend like "enjoy it before the kiddo takes over"

maybe some flowers for her... whiskey for him and nothing for the baby
