Looking for a high end Gin...

Im not much of a gin drinker...actually, not really at all unless its Hendricks...A friend of mine usually only drinks gin and tonics or gin with a cucumber...He did me a favor and to repay him, id like to get him a good bottle of gin. he had never tried hendricks and really liked it when i ordered him one....but id prefer to get something a little better...not over $100, but more than 40-50.

Blackwood's Vintage Gin is easily the best gin I've had, though it's hard to find. Otherwise Hendrick's and Junipero are my standards.

I find that most of these modern gins are barely gins at all. More like lemon, or cucumber flavored vodka. This is why I like Old Raj. It is an in-your-face gin. Dry, peppery, filled with juniper.

the juniper is really important...the leopolds looks and sounds nice, but for taste Old raj may be the ticket....gah....maybe ill have to try them myself first.

The friend is a gin aficionado, so he probably already owns a lot of juniper-heavy gins. Plus, he likes Hendricks. I think one of the modern gins might be a good addition to his liquor cabinet. I love Aviation (particularly in the cocktail for which it is named), but it is definitely on the softer side.

I wanted to spend more....and I was worried that maybe he had already bought a bottle.

I suppose I could get him a bottle of hendricks and some nice crystal tumblers....He did a big favor. saved me a ton of money.

If he already bought a bottle but drinks a lot of gin then another won't do any harm. Get him a bunch of Fever Tree tonic to go with it and some nice glasses, as you say.

Junipero if you can get it. It is hard find outside of SF though.
Plymouth Navy Strength is good but strong.
Sacred if you are in the UK.

I'd just find a local micro-distiller in your area and go with that really. Gins are very individual in a lot of ways.
