Krankl was not a Zidane, of course, but he was a hell of a striker, with big presence. Google video Krankl, World Cup Argentina Cordoba 1978, West Germany....

fritzl will be happy, I think.

He was amazing. Retired, came back, led France to the Final, won the Golden Ball. The head-butt was just too bad; he should have been on the field at the end, win or lose.

Still, my heart is always for Baggio.

Explain what? Krankl was a very, very good striker.
He was not, however, the complete player, leader and innovator (both in soccer terms and "politically", integrating players into the French side) that Zidane was.
Zidane was one of the greatest players ever.
I don't understand what to explain.

Defend??? How?
I'm not defending it at all. It was a terrible, unprofessional, stupid and classless move.
It is unbelievable that a player of his caliber would lose his temper in that manner in that moment.
I don't defend any of Zidane's dirty plays (and there were others).

As I said before, as a supporter of Italy I would rather have the opponent's captain on the pitch when we win, rather than off it.
That is all.
That is not the same as defending his decisions/actions.

Are we having a communication problem?
I saw him play (on tv, I mean); I thought he was a very good striker.
Do you really think Krankl was as great a player as Zidane, though?
Or am I mis-understanding you?

Granted, Krankl was probably a better singer than Zizou, but I don't think we're discussing his singing talents here....

I'm pretty sure that a player I, and many other fans of the game on here I'm sure, have never heard of is not better than Zidane.

Zanetti played his 757th game for Inter last weekend (maybe 758th this weekend?)

Respect

Excellent player, but as far as players with impressive Serie A appearance records go, I'd say he's still a bit off of Paolo Maldini (in terms of quality).

Maximum respect.
Yes, he already has #758, against Bologna yesterday.
He'll play #1,006 as a professional (including 145 for the Argentine Nat. Team) on Tuesday, in Moscow. Simply amazing.
Plus, I think El Arg already wrote this some time ago...his last red card was in 1999, the year he became captain. Pure class.

Here is a photo of Zanetti's first arrival in Milano in 1995.

Nice photos and homages of his career at Inter from the beginning to today here.

"A bit off" is debateable, I think; if so, by a very, very small amount.
They are both excellent players/captains, and obviously both strong symbols of their teams.

I mean, it's not like Maldini = Krankl and Zanetti = Zidane or something like that....lol8[1].gif
(Just joking, fritzl!!!)

I love that Zanetti's hairstyle hasn't changed in 16 years.

FIFA12 out tomorrow night at midnight! Yes, I will be at walmart with a line formed behind me of mexicans waiting to pick it up as soon as it comes out of the shipping boxes (four years running now)!!!

If Zidane had not been sent off France would have won that World Cup IMO. Just because someone is not as famous as Zidane doesn't mean he wasn't as good.
