I think we should do an "*insert caption here*" sort of competition with this one...

"Sorry, I don't speak Portuguese, but in Spain and Argentina we call what we just served you a "big ole can o' whup-ass, with some Asado on the side....Adiós!"

Wish Arsenal had come out on top against City. Looks to have been a good game - ESPN3 didn't have it, so I didn't watch.

Yes it was a good game. I was very impressed with City, but Arsenal probably deserved a point. They played better against City than Chelsea did, and Chelsea got 3 points. Such is football.

You have got to love it that a week after the City win, Chelsea cough up a late goal at Wigan and drop points. Chelsea played like their brains were unplugged. wtf.

Wigan have the worst pitch in football. My old drop-in league played on a better surface.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/999477/luis-suarez-banned-for-eight-games-by-fa?cc=5739

This is just excellent  8 games for saying what he did? I don't condone the words he used, but it is in the middle of a game while trying to get in the head of his opponent. Hopefully Andy Carroll can do something for the team as they already are struggling to find the net.

nobody else heard it, not the officials, not any pool players, not any officials, not any fans, not even any of evra's teammates. it was all based on evra's word, and evra even said he doesn't think suarez is a racist but reported the comments. in fact i believe suarez is 1/4 black (not justifying anything he may have said, of course, just pointing out another fact here). this may get dragged to the European Court of Sports Arbitrations and he may not even have to serve the ban this season as those appeals take a whiiile

I hope that he does appeal it. I tried to find a video of the alleged incident, but haven't been able to yet. At least we know that Chelsea will be without John Terry for eight games now, right?

Negro, or some variant

Which isn't considered really a "racial slur" in Spanish in the first place

It's like calling someone blonde in English. Description, not insult.

This is from the Daily Mail (so who knows if it is accurate) about the events:
Manchester United faced Liverpool in a Premier League match. In the 57th minute Suarez fouled Evra and tempers flared at the next corner. They squared up to each other and Evra asked why Suarez kicked him. Suarez said he should forget about it, these things happen. Evra claims Suarez then became racially abusive, using the word 'negro'. Suarez denies using the word in that clash. Evra is clearly wound up, but nearby players do not seem particularly bothered.

A few minutes later Marriner calls the pair together. Suarez apologises and tries to pat Evra on the head. It is alleged Evra said: 'Don't touch me, you South American,' to which Suarez replies: 'Porque, negro?'

Evra catches Kuyt two minutes later and is booked. He allegedly shouts at Marriner: 'You're only booking me because I'm black.'

Suarez is bemused, saying: 'I called him something his team-mates call him and even they were surprised by his reaction.'

So Evra was already pissed off and then tells the ref he is being racist by booking him? I really hope there was some more evidence than that, because why would anyone believe Evra after that, if not Suarez is getting screwed. I guess this is karma for all the times he gets touched and falls to the ground waving one arm and holding his shin with the other hand like he needs a stretcher. Or the handball in the World Cup.
