I must admit, with suits I wear fairly conservative socks. It's with coats and odd trousers that I'll pull out their more colourful cousins.

Yay ! Tell your uptight and anti social colleague he needs to cheer up. I see bankers and lawyers wearing florescent pink socks to work for gods sake.
