considering purchasing pro-style dumbbells

I want to purchase dumbbells but find spinlocks irritating, don't like powerblocks, boflex etc... I think the handles are also big and unwieldy. I don't completely understand fixed weights though. So far some of the brands I read in a google search to look into were, Ivanko, GP Industries, Iron Grip, and Cemco. Some of them, such as these... http://www.gpindinc.com/dumbbells.html say they are adjustable (for wear, whatever that means)... yet everywhere I search to purchase seems to sell them in sets only. Now I know these are usually bought for building gyms, but if I'm not using all the weights in a set simultaneously, does that mean I can manually adjust these as I add more weight? I don't have much room in my apartment anyway. Does anyone know if I can purchase any of these individually somewhere instead of buying whole sets?

Those look like fixed weights and no you can't adjust them. That's why they're fixed. Get a couple of Olympic handles and some plates. They'll last forever. You can use the plates on a barbell if you have one or when you have one. Long handles have advantages. Some times you don't want to use a couple of large plates and a bunch of small ones can be put on a longer handle. If you don't like spinlocks get clips.
