Best Gaming Desktop for Less than $1K?

Any suggestions? Websites are giving me highly suspect answers. Best Buy had an Asus for $899 that is an i7 quad core, 8GB RAM, Nvidia graphics card w/ 1700MB video ram

Is there something better perhaps?

I don't really have time to do something like that unless there's a recommended cookie cutter solution that I can quickly go off of.

Also, here's the PC Mag review on the one I mentioned above

Someone's selling one under B&S: Other for $800. That system should handle battlefield 3. Otherwise there's another budget build on the Keyboard and Mouse or Die blogspot.

Right. But that's probably assuming you know exactly what you want, and when looking at a list of products, you're easily able to distinguish specs, quality and value. I can't do that, so looking for something "off the shelf" or a cookie cutter build to use.

PM'd you. My rig (the one mentioned before) is perfect for you. Check my signature. I also have gaming mouse, great keyboard, and an ASUS 23" 1080P screen that I can make a package deal out of for you if you need it. This will handle anything right now with the GTX460 1GB I have in it.

Looks good, but really only need the tower, and need a cpu that scores above the 7,000 mark on this list: high end cpus.

Not really a good chart to go off of. This processor is wayyy fast for anything you need. With turbo boost I know plenty of I5-750s hitting 3.2 ghz..... + another HUGE thing is that if you ever decided to overclock the processor (which is SUPER simple) it's even more powerful. I think you're analyzing things wrong and discounting processors (even if you don't go with mine) just because it didn't score high on that one chart. Not trying to push my system on you but an i5-750 is one hell of a processor for the price and more than most people even need. With a gaming system your processor isn't even your major component that lends to a pleasant gaming experience............

Integrated graphics?.....

Dude, buy his rig. It's a steal. You're just lucky I just bought a gaming laptop for my mobile starcraft needs and can't buy his right now.

lololol. I built my own computer off this forum, its fucking rocks anything I could buy in the store at the same price. You dont need more than 4 gigs. And if you do you just but a 25$ stick big deal. 4 gigs runs every game under the sun at highest settings.

Thanks man. I'm REALLY surprised it hasn't sold yet. OP thinks the I5-750 isn't powerful enough, I tried explaining to him about turbo boost and how fast these are overclocked, but I think he's made up his mind against it. His money, so his choice. I do know for a fact though that for the under 1K market, you're not going to top my system and it's barely used, so you're getting it at about 25% off and I've already installed everything for you. but I'm not going to try and market my system anymore on this thread. PC guys and gamers know whats up. *BTW, this thing was AMAZING on Starcraft, especially with the 1080P screen, haha.

I know right? I don't know why people buy into this nonsense that you 'NEED' 8gb of memory. and that is true, hell adding 4gb of memory to my unit would take me all of 2 mins. and another +1 that it's borderline dumb to buy a PC in store when you can build one that not only houses BETTER components but they're better quality as well.

WOW, I just checked that link OP originally posted..............that unit is HORRIBLE, how are they even claiming that to be a 'gaming' unit? Power supply/graphics card in that one will let you play Monopoly on low settings, that's about the most hardcore gaming you'll wanna do. That's a prime example of desktops some companies are putting out with a 'fast' processor and 'a lot of memory' but the other components are shit.

It's all good advice no doubt. But definitely going to buy new when it comes to electronics. This isn't a pair of Vass we're talkin bout

After doin a bit more research am leaning more twds something like this machine here, but a couple hundred dollars less (whatever that quality comes out to be.)

Really only concerned w/ running games like Rift. I'm not into hardcore 3D gaming etc so I don't need top of the line.

Another wrong move IMO. You'd save a good bit of a money and all parts are always warrantied from 1-5 years. Just make sure the system is in great condition and specs aren't way old news. If electronics don't break in the first 6 months, they usually won't break for 5+ years in my experience. They usually only break/stop working due to some factory error that is usually prevalent in the first couple months. Again though, whatever you want to do. You've went from a horrible stock PC to that 3DS system in 6 hours.......take a few days and do a lot more reading/research to better understand what you need/what you should get for your needs.
