Ice Cream we scream

Just got an ice cream maker. Any of you fine gents have some good recipes? I recall seeing a beer ice cream recipe somewhere on here but couldn't find it in a search.

Buy this book. I've tried most of the recipes in there and they've all turned out pretty good. The author also has a blog here with more recipes and advice. I think the beer ice cream recipe was Iammatt's. Really the two most important things are not scrambling the eggs and making sure your machine is pre frozen if that's what you bought. It's pretty easy to make delicious ice cream.

(I just realized with 10 posts you might think I'm a spammer, the book is The Perfect Scoop by David Lebovitz, and the blog is davidlebovitz.com if you're hesitant to click the links.)

david's book is great. there's a new one out that looks really good, too. just got a review copy: jeni's splendid ice creams at home. haven't tested anything yet, but i do like that most of her ice creams don't start with cooked custard. i do like that for some ice creams, but i also like a fresh dairy base, too.

Have you tried Carmela yet? I think their lavender honey flavor is the best ice cream I've ever had by a few miles.

+1 I got an ice cream maker from my sister this past Christmas and that book has been a great guide.

I've been looking for different books on ice cream, please let me know if that one is worth picking up.

Jeni's is a Columbus staple, and anyone who's either spent some time in the city or lives here knows of the wonders that she makes. How does the book look?

I found Matt's recipe. I forgot we had an ice cream thread last year:

like i said, i haven't tested anything, but it looks really good. recipes look good and it's certainly well-packaged, lots of color, etc.

Gelato bases which start with milk/strarch have a lot of appeal for the same reason - they are pretty fast. B

What would be a good ice cream maker or way to create one?

go to bed bath and beyond on one of their coupon days and pick up the cuisinart. it's somewhat inconvenient -- you have to keep the canister in the freezer -- but it does a really good job for around $50. in my experience, you have to get up to about $400 before a non-canister freezer will make as good ice cream.

My wife has been making ice cream at home for several years and swears by this book. She actually just made another one of the recipes last night for the first time, strawberry sour cream, using fresh strawberries that we got on Friday in our local CSA "variety box" of produce. Really good ice cream!
