What makes a sneaker stand out?

I am thinking of buying Ferragamo Town 2 World, red sneaker. http://couture.zappos.com/n/p/p/7742210/c/585.html (It is on sale now)

What makes a sneaker stand out? I saw an expensive pair of spectator shoes that I kept looking at, but here where I am most people wear cheap 10-30 dollar shoes that all look the same. Will this shoe look more expensive? Before I have never had expensive shoes, except a mark nason moreland loafer.

I don't want to drop 300 bucks (after shipping) for some shoes if they won't look very much better than a pair of 50-100 dollar shoes I can buy here.

Thanks.

(I am choosing bright red because I think it looks sick with jeans) What other style of good quality shoe is like this? More casual, not so athletic?

First off you buying the shoes for the wrong reason. The common person wouldn't know the difference and those who do probably wouldn't care or notice at first glance. Point is don't worry about what other think or know about what you wear. Clothing is not like a car the difference between Alexander Wang to some wont look any different then Forever 21 as compared to a Aston Martin and Honda. (IMO) For instance, as a student I don't make a killing but I buy what I want and like. Many times people mistake my buttonups and sweaters for some popular brand (some more or less expensive) or my raws for levis. I don't mind often don't even correct them or bother explaining since I'm secure in my own style and wear what I like. As far as shoe design, I think shape and material are most important in my opinion.

I can tell when something is low quality, if I buy shoes like these will they appear to be higher quality? I'm in China, people look down on you if you have cheap stuff, especially in terms of work. Women are easy here, but they only care about money, so if you want to be with a rich one you shouldn't look like a farmer. (I'm not defending myself just telling you my situation lol. If people didn't care what others thought why would they be on this post trying to find what is acceptable and the best?) I don't like to wear lots of stuff, and take time to play dress up. I am just looking for a few things to wear all the time. Like a good pair of denim, good shoes, 1-2 bespoke and some nice dress shoes. Do you guys know of any other shoes like this one I might like? I don't want it to be too athletic (I have vibrams for that) or too old people (like the casual moccasins). I'm still considering getting this but I want to see other options first. Just to go with some dark blue jeans and a t shirt or dress shirt. thanks.

while "getting rich girls in china" is probably like the ONE reason I can think of for buying an obnoxiously branded shoe like that, those shoes are hideous. Get some regular shoes that aren't so ugly ,and flash your cash in other ways. A good pair of boots with be more subtle than bright red shoes, but then again, sounds like you're trying to pick up crazy chinese babes, so styleforum logic isnt gonna work anyways Or stay away from rich girls in China? It's not so hard, either way, right?

Problem with those sneakers, they just don't look expensive, they look like shit. As for 'Salvatore Ferragamo'.... must try harder. You'd probably be better off getting some gold Guccis. Everyone knows Gucci is expensive.
