Manbag for a traveller?

I'm travelling across NYC and Europe for a month and need a manbag to hold my things (mainly a camera and mini-tripod), but other little stuff as well. I'm thinking a messenger bag. I don't want anything dark and formal, and it has to have a shoulder strap and I prefer something with zippers and buckles since I'm always paranoid about dropping something.

Any suggestions? Any suggestions to make sure it doesn't look like a murse?

just say no to manbags. get a backpack - more useful, more ergonomic, and less ghey. i recommend north face

Spent 2 weeks in Japan with this bag...very comfortable on shoulder and can carry most of your daily needs. I like backpacks because you can slide them forward and unpack a map, without having to take it off. Very handy if you're standing on a train, etc etc.

maybe it's just me but i've never been able to fully warm up to messenger bags. backpacks are far more comfortable for actual walking around. definitely not as stylish, but far more practical IMO.

+1 for the filson. Though I don't own one, I like the look a lot and I've seen them in person. They're made incredibly well. You can probably get a more comfortable shoulder strap if you're using it for a long time. Backpacks are easier, but you'll really look like a traveller. Don't know if that bothers you.

Givenchy men's Nightingale duffle in calf (what I'm traveling with for the next month) - or travel like Tokyo Slim, with 1.5L of lukewarm water on your back inside an ass ugly backpack.

I use a hand carry bag for travelling, don't like rollers....but the problem with that is I can't use a bag with a strap and a backpack makes more sense since i have a shoulder strap on my carry-on (or handle too). depends. I use a tumi alpha messenger bag that can fit inside my bag for a true "one bag" experience. Its highly packable and takes almost no space, this is it inside a Briggs and Riley 235x. I'm leaning towards getting a GoRuck backpack though. www.goruck.com and I do have the Filson 257. I use that if I do use a roller suitcase.
