Training for half marathon + Hypertrophy training = ? - Page 2

I've been pondering signing up for Crossfit which seems like it tries to combine cardio and lifting into one coheisive fitness plan. Will report back if I go through with it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossfit for more info.

Crossfit is a dirty word on this forum...

But I do it and like it fine. I'd just say that they do a crap job teaching the O-lifts and doing them along with deadlifts for time is the stupidest thing ever.

Crossfit fits the needs of a lot of people that work out. If you do it you definitely want trainers that will show you proper form and actually enforce it throughout the workout.

While classes I have seen have not been that bad, 90% of the people that try to do their own routine in the open gym have the worst form imaginable. Bad form mixed with someone going through a routine that does not give you much time to stop and think is a terrible combination.

I bet chiropractors love crossfit...

I'd say that Crossfit gets you to about 60-70% competent in the O-lifts. But then add in a speed element, and you really knock that form down.

This is after training crossfit hard for 2 years and then taking up training with a former US Olympic coach - I was decent, but there are so many technical aspects to the snatch and clean that are just glossed over...

Anyway - if you want to get a mixed endurance/strength profile - crossfit style working out is the way to go. Better than doing pure boring cardio and strength as far as being fun.

There is a group of crossfitters here who sign up for random endurance events and don't bother training for them - their times aren't stellar, but they manage to finish most of them - including things like the Quad Dipsea which is pretty tough.
