Those are estimates on international visitors only. All visitors to Singapore are international whereas half of NYC's are domestic and therefore excluded from the report.

NYC visitor statistics.

Total Visitors to NYC 2000-2010* Visitors (international and domestic) to New York City
2010: 48.7 million
2009: 45.6 million
2008: 47.0 million
2007: 46.0 million
2006: 43.8 million
2005: 42.7 million
2004: 39.9 million
2003: 37.8 million
2002: 35.3 million
2001: 35.2 million
2000: 36.2 million

lol...what relevance does domestic visitors play? It's the foreign ones that matter more. How the hell do the French attract so many tourists? And not just to Paris.

Singapore is an important layover hub. Just because people check in to the airport, doesn't mean they're actually visiting Singapore.

Ya know, I can only judge it from having been absent from it: but I lived in Kuala Lumpur for 6 months, so I had plenty of opportunities to go to Singapore. But all the other places north of Malaysia were so much more appealing to me that I never went.
