Dating and STDs--herpes - Page 4

I am not sure why you would even consider it. However, I respect her for telling.

The whole story about her h/s boyfriend sounds like bullshit. Since she seems to be interested in you, I doubt she will come out and tell you that she banged a large number of guys and she is not sure who gave it to her.

The doctors are going to tell you the risk is still there

I was treated with interferon and Ribavirin ( for the Hep C ) in 2003 and it was successful. Interferon is nasty shit and a form of Chemotherapy. The interferon also knocked the Herpus virus out of my body, which the Dr. told me is not uncommon. I would not recommend that anyone treat Herpes with Interferon nor do I know if any Dr. would do it. But it showed that Herpes need not be for life!
Are you sure it was The Herpes or just a herpes virus? Herpes virus are in about 97% of the population. It's not your fault, some doctors are horrible at patient education.

I think you might be referring to hsv1 the cold sore virus though hsv2 the one that causes herpes is common too.

I guess a person not agreeing with you (even though they have no clue about what's being said) means that you're trolling....

Ye, I've read about this Lysine pills, thanks. I want to point out that she is on a prescription antiviral pill (don't know the name.) And hasn't had outbreaks in some time. But because the virus can still infect even without sores present, I want to know how great is that risk even if the person is on antivirals. So, I'll be talking to a doctor this week.

Honestly, it sounds like you've already made your mind up. Just be sure to consider the implications this could have on the rest of your life. If things don't work out with this girl and you get infected you will have basically self selected yourself out of the dating pool. As an aside, I disagree with the other poster who said being an '86 born is too soon to have found "the one". If you actually feel like there is that potential then it might be worth waiting until you're farther along in the relationship before having sex. Having a lot in common is a good start but not a strong enough foundation considering the stakes.

For a life altering disease, too high.

And maybe the net intelligence of the race goes up by some small degree.

I don't think it's likely to spread at all without sores present. As I said, I kiss my girlfriend all the time and it's been 10 years since we started dating and she hasn't gotten cold sores, and the frequency of our kissing is much greater than the frequency of those who have genital herpes have sex.

Lysine does next to nothing. At most it might shorten an outbreak by a day or so, and it's very likely that it does nothing at all. Meds are the way to go, though taking them every day seems like overkill.

One thing you should keep in mind is to know what triggers an outbreak for her, and avoid contact at the time, even if there is no outbreak yet. I get cold sores when I'm exposed to a lot of sunlight or get sick. Unlike others, being under stress doesn't have any bearing on when I get cold sores. Know what she reacts to.
