Dating and STDs--herpes

I'm kinda in a difficult situation. A girl that I've clicked with so well told me that she has Herpes/HSV-2. We did not get intimate yet. I began to read everything there is to know about Herpes 2 and how common it is. 1 in 5 females and 1 in 9 males have it. Would you reject someone you loved over this? Even with condom use, there is no guarantee that you won't get infected because you get it through skin to skin contact. And asymptomatic people can still spread it. She told me that she takes antiviral meds and she rarely has outbreaks. I respect her honesty with me over this issue because I'm sure rejection is the norm when people hear "I have an STD." Has anyone dated someone with Herpes or has this condition and how did you handle it? One side tells me that this condition is not a serious illness like HIV and pretty much it's very common in the adult population, but another side still scares me about getting HSV-2. Worst thing right now is potentially rejecting someone over something like this, when you really like the person, which I don't want to do.

I'm going to assume you are not trolling because I'm feeling generous today.

So you are interested in her either as:

1) a hook up
2) long term material

if 1) then it's a no brainer. Even if she were banging, its a virus dude. Not like chlamydia or something that can be cured. If 2) carefully weigh your options. If you're like 40 years old and she is THE ONE and also INCREDIBLY HOT, weigh the probability of this relationship being 4lyfe against the downside of being a walking incurable STD if it doesn't work out. If you're not desperate or old, or there is even a slight chance this isn't the one, then definitely no.

The essence of this is you need to weigh a lifetime of pain / greatly diminished future mating options against this one girl.

Just use a condom and stick it in her pooper!!

Seriously, if you like her and you get intimate, use a condom and you should be ok...

Don't do it. Don't talk yourself into it. If you get it then you'll have to explain/warn the condition to all of your subsequent partners. Why even risk it. There's supposed to be a vaccine in the works. Until then, just say no.

Not necessarily.

I was infected with the Hep C virus in the early 1970s and didn't discover it till about 2001.

I also was infected with the Herpes virus ( at a different time in the 1970s ).

I was treated with interferon and Ribavirin ( for the Hep C ) in 2003 and it was successful.

Interferon is nasty shit and a form of Chemotherapy.

The interferon also knocked the Herpus virus out of my body, which the Dr. told me is not uncommon. I would not recommend that anyone treat Herpes with Interferon nor do I know if any Dr. would do it.

But it showed that Herpes need not be for life!

Thanks, but it is not as bad as it seems.

Currently, those with access to medical care are experiencing cure rates in the 90%s ( at least those without genotype 1 ). Houston is also home to many very fine hepatologists.

An overview.

If one were to contact a long term chronic potentially fatal disease, Hepatitis C is probably one of the better diseases.

AAMOF the Herpes was more of an irritant than Hep C ( which is basically symptom free ).

To the OP. When someone gets a Herpes outbreak, it generally gets their attention. And it really varies how much an individual with Herpes has outbreaks.
