For business shirts...

What are the main types of shirt collars and when is it best to wear them?

If you have a long neck, is it better to wear a bigger collar and vice versa?

This might be useful. But it's actually pretty simple. Best is to grab a book by Alan Flusser. He talks about shirt collars in length. Short version: 1. Long neck - tall collars, short neck - short collars. 2. Narrow face - wide collars, wide face - pointy collars. 3. Big head - big collars, small head - small collars. 4. Suit - collars long enough to be under said suit's lapels. It's all about proportions, really.

There would seem to be exceptions to this rule. Granted, not a suit.

That collar is badly out of shape.

Your x-ref is very helpful and somewhat supports my view that too much weight is typically given to rule #2. In fact, I would almost say that if Flusser says it, stay away...

I agree my collar is terrible in those pics (also I consider that fit a bit of a failure). Collar should look like this:

I just ordered another shirt too and if that meets my standards I figure after this month I'll never be wearing shirts with anemic collars should I be wearing a tie.

I don't see a collar as I'm distracted by the cartonish 80's hair!

I'd say I'm sorry for your jealousy but I'm not. Bet you don't even do 1000 crunches in the morning. I use an ice pack on my face while doing them if my face looks a little puffy.

This is not an exception to the rule, but rather a reason for it.
