Nevermind.  Taller heel and double sole.

Does this mean anything regarding comfort or is it basically just that it stands a bit taller, and obviously looks slightly different?

ppl's comfort is affected by heel height, but if thats not a big deal either should be ok, generally a double sole is softer to walk on

Yup. But if the last is shaped like it's meant for a big heel, it will still be comfortable because it won't be pushing the ball of your foot forward.

when you add a thicker heel to something which doesn't already have it you risk making it really uncomfortable.

I find the heels on all the Layer-0 just too low compared to the hugeness of the toe ...

but that's the good part! and the toe will flatten out, i believe.

probably not that much - other guys can chime in to correct me, but I'm pretty sure that most of these boots are built with an elongated toebox. That is, you fit the instep, heel and shaft to your foot and the toe remains lifted - so I doubt they'd flatten out that much, as your toe probably only goes just past the beginning of that lift, meaning that it would flatten out some, but only to the point that the low heel allows.

If you're looking for hugely expensive boots, I think you should check out augusta with your steeze. Or the high guidi combats.

yah, i dig about 10% of the stuff in this thread, but the prices are a bit exorbitant. i really want some ann d vitellos that snowman and charly have what I may do is just add a thicker rubber sole to my F+Bs and I'll achieve a similar look (and they're due for a resole pretty soon). another thing that's been tickling my fancy lately is a pair of white leather boots. something rugged, like combat style or something. I thought these were fuckin sick, but probably a bit much for me.

i find that my 'plebe' substitutes give me a similar visual at a fraction of the price. My butteros and F+Bs, both with the heel chopped (and with no ill effects to the balance or comfort), have aged beautifully and I find the leather on both to be excellent. The creasing is more of a ripple/wave vs the cracking creases that cheap leather exhibits. the F+Bs i have were bought second hand from SuFu more than a year ago, so I think it's a discontinued model or something, because i find the leather on it is superb; I wish I could take some macros. and they're not the elfs...

i can't find the pictures I took after I had conditioned and polished both of them. the F+Bs took the shine really well... (edit: found pic)
