guidi does not produce, nor use shell cordovan. Horween is the only tannery to still produce shell cordovan. "cordovan" is thrown around because it's sexier than "horse." Whenever carpe diem or layer-0 used shell, it was horween.

There is still Japanese tanned cordovan IIRC, but its shite

I haven´t seen this pair of A1923 posted (I think), at least since I´ve been following the thread (though probably you´ve all seen them) but wanted to share ´cause they´re my favorite out there.
If anyone owns them (in any color), please post a pic so I can wear them vicarously

well cordovan is horse, so saying it looks like horse and not cordovan makes no sense. it's like saying "looks like footwear, not boots"

shell cordovan is horse, but horse is not shell cordovan.
would you like an SZ style graph?

mikey you misunderstood, clearly after some explanation from hendrix you got it, also guidi doesnt make cordovan zip boots thus looks like horse not cordovan

I'm going to be asinine here and say that when we're talking about shoe leather, we can agree that horse leather is not the same thing as cordovan leather, so A does not include B.

Similarly, calf leather is not cow leather. Maybe we could call them under the umbrella of "bovine leather". What's the latin for horse? cbf googling.

This is all very good thesis procrastination, btw.

GUIDI don´t take cordovan (a part of the hip from the horse) on side- front- or back zips. because this part from horse is too small for any one piece leather boot.
cordovan is available only for lace up boots. this info i have from my GUIDI dealer ...

So then LN-CC is stretching the truth or we are arguing about semantics or what? They are referring to regular horse leather as cordovan? Or Guidi is? I really doubt LN-CC would come up with the change from horse to cordovan on their own and describe it as 100% cordovan leather.

Those are horse. Ask them to send you a image of the box; specifically where it lists the leather type. As mentioned earlier Guidi's cordovan is not large enough for one piece construction.

Okay well, since they are horse, not cordovan...what do you think of them?

Are those the 696 or 698 model? I prefer the mid height in the back zip or side zip (988 or 698).

Guidi makes a great product; style-wise probably easiest of all the discussed brands to fit in with a normal SF approved wardrobe.

i agree with Eck the 900 models have a taller shaft and age in a really cool manner over time, i dont think LN-CC will have the best price points even with their sale try http://www.pnp-firenze.com/wp/ i find that they have a lot of great options and best pricing for new guidi
