should discuss this here some more as a fresh alternative to the nauseating repetition that has taken root.

for example, what wide-last alternatives are there to non-cordovan aldens ?

^ what? You mean shell shoes with a wide last that are not Aldens? Or wide lasted Aldens that are not shell?

People into Yohji/Harnden/Yang Li/etc. (so volume and a certain out of fashion timelessness) should definitely look into Mitteleuropean shoemaking in general, I'm not talking about, say, Vass more western european offerings but real rounded and fat gunboats with thick soles. It is a beautiful tradition and will give wearers the same feeling of slowly evolving through wear as their clothing, something the shoes from these brands often fail to attain as they don't age that well. I know a chick with a lot of FerragamoXYohji but I dunno if they exist for men or what they're worth design wise.

fuuma post more massaro, sutor, etc pls

Pretty sure Yang Li's footwear is made by Church's but I could be wrong. But I too like a more refined aesthetic for shoes and it does definitely would say it goes well with certain styles.

The only thing in my tumblr with pics of artisan shoes is about Japanese shoemakers and isn't updated that often + I'm not looking for any new boots/shoes so not checking anything right now= no pictures. I think I've already posted pics of most of my shoes or at least a good proportion.

Georg Materna with double sole is dope:

Yang Li made by Cheaney.

Materna are excellent.

neither, i meant alt. to alden that wasn't shell either but in wide last. i find aldens to have dramatically increased in price for no obvious reason, perhaps i'm mistaken here.
sorry for confusion

Calf does not usually age well, especially if it's corrected grain and you take shit care of it. Only really relevant if you're looking to beat a pair of MC shoes into submission.

I love the Yang Li styling, would love to see a side-zip with a similar shape and sole.
There's no right answer, wear what you like

That said, I still want a black pair of side zips and a pair of jodphurs. And not any side zip like MMM etc. something more particular

-she will be mine. oh yes

I like Yang Li, but it doesnt look like it breaks in well and will crease awfully along the vamp to the toe..similarly to the Raf Simons derby
