I can't. I'm really having focus issues right now. And it was the last sentence I took issue with, mostly. Carry on.

It looked like that to me as well. Anyone have pics of the insole? might be able to confirm.

Pretty sure that m_moria is handmade.

It's not the be all and end all, but it does significantly increase the cost of manufacture - that's at least another 6 hours of highly skilled labour that goes into the shoes, possibly more. And it does make for a significantly better shoe. Both in terms of quality and durability.

In addition, you can have an entirely hand made shoe from one of the other big MC brands (vass i think) for same price. Anyways its just an aesthetic difference at this point. We all overpay for our style on SF some things you have deal with.

Yeah you definitely are paying for styling, and that's fine.

But comparing to Vass is a little unfair. Remember, Vass only sells direct (or through a proxy) so they don't have to worry about retailer margins at all. Also, they can constantly have ~20 employees making the shoes - while I think that most of the SZ brands have much fewer numbers and probably need to contract the work out rather than having their own employees. And then there's the economy of scale - everything costs more in those smaller numbers.

Honestly, I think everything is fucking expensive. I'm poor. This is a rich man's game.

It's also worth noting that the "artisan" brands have a much smaller market to appeal to, as far as I can tell. So they need to make more money per shoe.

That said, like any business, they will price at what the market will tolerate and not much less.

Have these been posted before?

There are a couple of vintage shoe enthusiasts on MC who have some "spade soled" shoes that I think might be the inspiration for those.

I prefer the originals.

Augusta is expensive because it replicates the traditional craft in a most exacting way - hand sewn welts, ultra thick leather, and specialised leather research done by Simone himself to create various interesting effects. Totally In house production which I consider "100% artisan". 2k is a little steep. I almost pulled the trigger on the derbies going for 600-700 euro was it? But decided against it because I seldom wear derbies,

MA+ is expensive because I don't know why. I'm pretty sure MA+ uses a factory, an artisan factory no doubt ("calzaturificio") of good quality which some other brands use, but the man simply does the design and quality control. So I do not think that they are totally artisan, if you are looking for that in a shoe. They are good shoes - very, very elegant, more elegant than augusta - but sometimes the leather is thinner than what I would want it to be. However for what they are, they are horribly expensive.

Take it from me, Amadei's strongest suit is pattern making with fabrics and rumpled leather shirts/accessories, not shoes.

CCP...can't say much about construction but is awful as fuck comfort wise. Aesthetic is very defined - if you're into that sort of thing - but otherwise I would stay away. Not dropping 2k+ for aching feet.

As for carpes and the lines that came after...they are legendary for a reason.

Hey guys,

What do you think about the A1923 llama lace boots?  There is a pair my size on SUFU with a slight rip on the top of the boot: http://supertalk.superfuture.com/index.php?/topic/141399-damir-doma-bomber-pants-a1923-boots-us11-bbs-pant-m/#entry2830527

I am debating between them and the Layer-0 backzips.  Any advice???

Thank you!

These are the only $700 + shoes I own that are not dress shoes.

I think that they do look better than many of the shoes posted in this thread, however.

^^ Those are horrible- get the back zips. If end the with the Augusta, the repair is simple.

Syth and Shady great post(s) icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

m_moria is is hitting 4000gbp from what I'm reading on the SZ thread (insane) & I don't think CCP is handmade at all- pretty sure it's coming from a factory.

the leather on m_moria is great, the soles look awesome, and the shape is god awful. people talking about the amazing leather quality on shell cordovan from carpe diem, avantindietro, layer-0, and m_moria, um, that's the exact same leather as Alden. Is it nice? of course, but the price is ridiculous. I know other things are factored into cost obviously, but when we rave about leather quality, recognize that this stuff is the same stuff that many much lower end brands use...

I prefer the original spade soled shoes as well.
