Make sure your cobblers are balancing out you boots after a adding rubber too

There is only 1 cobbler I use, and that's George's at Finchley road tube station. George is the owner. An old guy who's been running the place forever. He knows exactly what to do. He's vibramed every pair of CCP and Augusta shoes/boots I've owned (including sneakers). Ask for him and only leave your boots with him. Worth calling in advance to check he's in....he'll want at least a day as he won't rush them.
Remind him exactly what you want (in terms of not touching the sole etc and balancing the sole) and you can sleep well knowing he won't **** them up. He'll probably mention he looks after another guy (me) with the exact same instructions

I find part of this conversation so odd to me. Why does a cobbler go on and do things to your shoe, like polish, if you have not requested the service. Then why wouldn't they balance the shoe if you add the vibram heel. Feels like this should be obvious.

I got lucky and my cobbler vibrams my shoes pretty well so i cannot complain. I always mention to not do anything besides the vibram to be on the safe side...

To touch on an old topic, topy vs vibram. I always find topy to be thinner.

@adubz You can size up 1.5 to 2. I sized up 2 and they fit fine.

guidi fit about 1.5 to 2 sizes small, hence a 44 like myself would take a 45.5/46 in guidi

the model in question looks like a 986 but i am not sure whether there is a toe-cap or if it is a soft toe

i can't urge you enough to go try them on. What i have noticed is the zips fit 1.5-2 sizes small and the lace ups are 1 size small. Even if H lorenzo's stock is small you can get a feel for the various boots/shoes.

once you know what you want, reach out to Marco at PN/P or Holger at Hide-m and check their stock. Both of them do custom orders but there is a wait of i think 3 months, i don't remember exactly

I will never get the huge sizing discrepancies in clothing, especially footwear. Maybe this has been discussed before, and if so sorry for bringing up the topic again.

I mean, for any shoe sizing system, European, UK, US or whatever, there should be a direct correlation between a given size and the length of the foot in centimeters/inches.

For clothing it can be trickier because for example for tops it's not only the chest, there's also shoulders, arms, length..., same for bottoms, it's not just the waist, also rise, thigh, length, leg opening... also there are also clothes meant to be fitted and others looser, but there's not such a thing for footwear. There are obviously chunkier and slimmer shoes/boots, but that should only have to do with their looks on the outside and not sizing/how your feet fit inside.

And I know that when we talk about artisanal brands which produce goods "fatto a mano" there might be small variations, but if we talk about consistently sizing up 2 for a brand it seems like an easy to fix issue, doesn't it? Especially when this can be detrimental to the brands themselves, which can see their products being returned over an over again to retailers.

Sorry for the rant but this happened to me recently when I bought a pair of 10sei0otto boots... since it's not one of the brands discussed here (which are higher end), I couldn't really find references about how their sizing works, only to find out that they run at least 1 size large. So me, a true 41 had to buy a 40 in 10sei0otto and if I wanted to buy some Guidis I would have to buy a 43, a variation of 3 full sizes, it's ridiculous.

What's worse is when you're given three different waist measurements by two retailers and the brand itself of the exact same size pants which happened to me recently. Who to believe? Don't get me started on knitwear with stretched vs unstretched chest measurements. Yoox roulettes nothing compared to sizing roulette.
