Can anyone comment on the durability of Guidi? They are beautiful and available, but I want something that can survive the slush and salt of at least 2 Toronto winters. I have wanted a pair for quite a while, but now that I find myself in a position to grab some I wonder if the hell I plan to put them through might mean I'm better suited to just getting some MIE Dr. Martens, spending the rest of the money on clothes and waiting until summer next yea for boots

Also, the pair I want that is available is a lovely horse leather, but from this year's S/S. Is the construction different and more suited to warmer weather than the F/W line? If they were marked down at all I wouldn't hesitate, but paying retail or so close to for last seasons gear feels weird. Especially if F/W is made to be a bit tougher. Is that just the nature of the artisanal leather game?

^^ DXB. Guidi in horse leather is bomb proof. i had a backzip that was my beater boots and was really happy with it. as for paying retail and "last seasons," these boots don't change much from season to season so i wouldn't worry about the feeling weird for so called last season. just find a good pair that fits and that you like and you'll be set.

Officine Creative definitely isn't worth their high retail prices but you can often find them on sale (Barneys had that same boot in a light grey for ~50% during their last sale off I believe - though it seems to be back at full price now [=http://www.barneys.com/Officine-Cre...ot/501567287,default,pd.html?cgid=men&index=1][/]).

Quality on the pair of OC's I had was good, although other people on the forum have had problems; solid mid-tier brand if you get 'em on discount.

DXB, for Toronto snow you are going to need some serious sealant like Sno-seal. And then there's the zipper (if the model you're looking at has one) which isnt sealed.. depending on how deep your slush is water could get in there. Personally I wouldn't think of risking a $1k pair of boots in heavy slush. Salt is the real killer though.. once you get a salt stain on leather it's not coming out.

Then there's the question of warmth.. Guidi's are a fairly thin boot (was it sinndk who called them "leather socks"?). You'd probably need to size up an extra 1 or 2 sizes to be able to wear a thick wool sock underneath. Ohya, and you'd need to get a rubber sole with some serious grip added. A layer of vibram isn't gonna cut it in the snow.

You may want to look at other options.. N.D.C. makes some shearling-lined winter boots with a commando sole. Not exactly Guidi styling though.. if you're after that but snow-ready it might be hard to find. You might wanna message Uncontrol.. forum member with like 10k posts who lives in Montreal - I remember him going through a lot of options a while back on the (non-baller) shoe/boot thread.

I wear 2 year old sneakers and dri fit ankle socks in the Toronto no problem. its not that bad unless you are walking for 2+ hours everyday and forget to pick up your feet

Yeah beater shoes/boots are good for slush cause you don't have to worry about 'em. I lived in NYC for 5 years and I wore an old pair of Timberland Chelsea boots whenever it snowed.. stomped through tons of slush and didn't give a damn.
