for a 43/us10 you need a size 45 in guidi, don't get a 44 unless you cut off a toe. ok seriously though here is the sizing
laceup +1 - 1.5 from your size
backzip +2
double heel backzip could be +1.5

if you cannot wait for cDiem, get ma+ backzip, best current backzip out there.

what are you looking for? clean aesthetic or distressed?
ma+/guid is clean
a1923/L0 distressed
CCP kinda in between

also order your guidi from Holger or PN\P, you can't wait for delivery?

I've sized up 1 on all the Guidi's I've owned (various back zip, side zip and derby models) and been fine.

Are Carpe Diems a better option than Guidi?  There are some nice looking models of Guidi available new for $1000 to $1200.

The Archive in SF has a lot of Guidi so I plan to stop by and check them out when I can find some time.  I usually wear a 43 or 10.  The Archive recommended I go with a 44 because Guidi run small.

Thanks

showrooming ain't cool bro..

What do you mean by the statement "showrooming ain't cool bro"?

Are you saying that its bad to state the name of a company that carries a relevant product in a forum post?

Or are you saying its bad to go to a brick and mortar shoe store to try on a pair of shoes??

true, I prefer slightly snug over heel slippage.

misinterpreted your previous post perhaps. heard too many stories of folks going into bricks & mortar stores to try things on for size just to proceed to order the exact same thing online from a cheaper (usually European or Japanese, depending on brand origin of course) retailer..

once you factor in shipping + customs, does it really work out to be cheaper? Especially given the current euro/usd exchange rate, seems like the prices would have to be *very* different to make it work out. (Unless I'm misestimating the VAT, e.g., it doesn't seem as if getting the frontzips from PN\P would be less than getting them in LA.) Y'all would know better than me, it just seems surprising.

Much less dude...lets do the math quickly

guidi backzip at archive is 1140 usd (lets say you don't pay CA tax on these), PN\P is asking for a similar backzip 988e - approx 20% vat = 790.4 which converted to usd is $898
1140 - 898 = 242.

shipping is normally free from PN\P, i don't remember the minimum amount to get free shipping but assume over 500 its free.

now if i buy in CA $1140 * 1.09(tax rate) = 1242.60 then the difference is 1242.60 - 898 = 344.60

Thats a pretty fucking significant chunk. If you check the #s on a1923 its even more significant. The exchange rate being low right now is in your favor to buy from europe.

Also everyone please spare me the retail brick n mortar conversation, i know why places charge what they charge.

Yeah it is for that one, I just tried to price out the frontzips pretty quickly and reached a cost of $1041 from PN\P prior to any customs duty vs. the sticker price of $1137 from Cruvoir, and assumed that the duty would render getting them from PN\P indifferent or worse. (But I neglected to factor in tax on the hypothetical Cruvoir purchase, which is obviously not nothing.) Or does PN\P ship stuff in some canny customs-avoiding way?

Does seem like it's more clearly a good deal on some of the other stuff, though.

No dude, its cheaper for almost every piece, trust me i did the math lots of times and its always significant. No way you are getting those front zips any cheaper than Hide-M or PN\P.

I don't remember if cruvoir is in the usa and cannot comment on their taxes. But, PN\P just declares low value, i bought from them several times and never had an issue with customs. I had charge from customs 2 times in past 5 years. One was from boutique roma which they gave me a heads up about and a 10% discount to cover the fee (great customer service and great shop). The other was some store where i ordered Schneider and they didnt say anything, long story short i didnt do business with them again.

It comes down to prices in the USA for the designers/brands we talk about here are much higher due to rent of space, import duties and taxes. Look at H lorenzo, Archive, Atelier, Hotoveli, Patron of the New all usa based and all prices are higher than europe.

Oh, the low declared value is what I was missing. (Cruvoir is in LA, so it would be CA taxes.) Thanks.

yeah man, the overseas guys try to keep value as low as possible. especially since a lot of us here are repeat business.

thanks re Cruvoir, i've been cruising their site and now the sales aren't as interesting due to CA tax.
