The Official Artisanal "streetwear" footwear (boots, shoes, sandals) thread (Guidi, CCP, Augusta, M.A.+, M Moria, Carpe Diem, etc..) - Page 1379

Diving in on a pair of chelseas finally.  I get really anal about this shit.  I really just want a versatile quality pair... and I'm leaning towards suede because it's a bit more casual.  Do I go for tan or roll with something darker (gray?)?  SLP?  Bottega?  I need to be steered in the right direction.  Thanks for help.

I have a feeling this is wrong thread (never heard of artisanal chelseas, no offense), but in my opinion most iconic chelsea boots are Slimane's hence SLP is the best choice. And yes, black only.

hmmmm

so none of the makers we talk about here really make chelseas save for guidi, not what you are looking for i think

now SLP is nice and pricey, but i think you can look into some of the classic makers, loake or carmina, for a nice chelsea. i remember i looked into some but i forget all the brands. APC makes a chelsea as well. This is definitely more of a classic men's question but if i remember any other makers i'll update. check out http://www.pediwear.co.uk/footwear/ or http://us.skoaktiebolaget.se/collections/carmina see brown carmina they look bad ass or black carmina http://www.carminashoemaker.com/mens-boots/chelsea-black-80216. I believe more value there then SLP if you are open to it.

Yeah I jumped the gun on the post.  Didn't mean to derail.  Those Guidi chelseas are pretty badass... haha.  I am looking for a less dressy chelsea... which is why I'm leaning towards suede.

I could probably get into a discussion here about the boot... but I'll spare you all.

@sinnedk Thanks for the suggestions.

Well... If I'm looking to drop good $$$ on a pair... you better believe I've going to turn some stones.  I'll see what I come up with.

If there is someone who is a bit more in the know that frequents these pages... hit me up when you get a spot.  I want to pick your brain.

John Lobb makes chelseas, and on any reasonable understanding of the word employs artisans. Both this and the "artisanal clothing" post have in their titles a kind of unfortunate conflation of "artisanal" meaning made by a skilled craftsperson and "artisanal" meaning a particular kind of aesthetic that foregrounds the handmadeness of the objects (ironically, often by foregrounding raw, unfinished, or "flawed" elements that a skilled craftsperson in other contexts would *not* let through---though this certainly can't be said of e.g. m_moria---or by applying the techniques of the craft to otherwise downmarket things).

I think Common Projects and ZonkeyBoot have some of the best looking Chelseas

post #20681 of 22293

Seconded Zonkey. I thought I had a lot of ideas in mind, then as soon as I was going through them, I realized that most of what I was thinking of were zip boots.  The other "artisanal-looking" chelsea boot I know of off-hand is the Rider x Sassetti Bloch, which is quite a bit different from your usual chelsea design-wise:

I would have bought them if they didn't intentionally fuck up the leather, maybe the quality wasn't top notch and they distressed it to hide that fact.
