Hey guys-

Long time lurker, first post. I'll try to get some photos of my shoe collection up. I have a mix of MA+, Guidi, A1923 and Layer-O's.

Currently I have Guidi back zips in black and dark red, A1923 in natural reverse shark, A1923 derbys in dark brown, M.A+ sneakers in mustard, M.A+ Lace Stitched half boots in black and Layer-O (model unknown) is reverse horse black/green. Plus a ton of shoes that don't belong in this thread.

The reason for my first post is to ask some CCP advice. About to order my first pair. I've read the last 1000 pages or so over the last few months. Its my morning coffee routine. The question is Tornados or side zips, type of leather, lined or unlined? Thinking of going for color 12, the dark green. Also, if I go Tornados, do I try to order the earlier wider version? Is that even possible?

I'm also considering going for the workboots or sneakers instead as my first CCP purchase which might make more sense considering what I already own. Thinking out loud...

Thanks for any tips or advice!

Before we start brace yourself for a long wait.

I'd say get tornados because they are more interesting than the side zips.
Color 12 looks great i had it for a moment on a bison pair.

Lined vs unlined only comes in to play when you get cul vs luc or sbuc vs cubs. see below for explanation

-CUL-PTC is horse cordovan leather used on the scar side (which is its reverse side), vegetable tanned; this kind of natural tanning makes the leather brown, so it can be dyed only with dark colours.
*note this is partially reversed, no lining
-LUC-PTC is the same leather, but used on the regular non-reverse side; same dyeing process as CUL-PTC.

-CUBS-PTC is horse cordovan leather used on the scar side (which is its reverse side), white tanned; this kind of natural tanning makes the leather white, so it can be dyed with any colour.
*note this is partially reversed, no lining
-SBUC-PTC is the same leather, but used on the regular, non-reverse side; same dyeing process as CUBS-PTC

regarding the wide last, again depends on what you like, the sleeker 2010 version is more common but you can order the wider last from a retailer.

+ on lined if you don't go with a partially reversed leather (cul/cubs/cors)

have a large foot? 44-45? but you want to copy our skinny, Carpe-hoarding Russian buddy @wormwood

Then you're in luck! scarred reverse red horse a1923 for a disturbingly low $

size 44-45 I believe. Not my listing, just passing it along

Thanks guys for the quick and informative reply. It was suggested that I order kangaroo leather by the retailer. I never owned anything with kangaroo leather before, it looks great in the photos. I suppose I need to do more reasearch before committing. The color 12 I love, this I am pretty set on.

I do like the wider last, I find wider shoes are just more comfortable for me as well as looking better to my eyes. I like when my toes can spread out. The Guidis are an exception, after some break in they became like slippers. Very comfortable.

Why kangaroo? Do you like the way it ages? I am hoping you are not just following a retailers suggestion.

I am personally not a fan and think the wide last Tornados won't look good with Roo because it slouches. Hence, the boot will have too much folding which I think would look a bit nicer on a narrower boot. That said I think Roo for regular last looks nice.

Kangaroo only at the retailers suggestion. Thats why I'm asking questions, and thats some very helpful info. I'm not yet sure what leather I'll go for, totally open to suggestions on this.

/\ Maybe the retailer is placing an order for a full size run in kangaroo? Who knows....

Given what you already own, the sneakers will be a nice addition IMO.

That makes sense, would also speed up the order. Batcha seem to come faster than one offs.

I forget but do you own any tornadoes or any CCP footwear?

So there aren't too many leather options for tornadoes Horse, Roo, bison. The question is more of what do you like out of your leather? Smooth, scarred, grainy. Color12 looks really nice in horse or bison albeit I don't remember seeing Roo in that color.

I'll post the bison I had in color12 when I get a moment. I am on mobile right now.

I don't own any CCP footwear, currently. I prefer scarred. Smooth or grainy both work for me, its always about the total package I suppose.

Thanks, looking forward to your photo when you have a chance.

Your choices are too broad at the moment

The only thing you can rule out are the side zips because no reason you wouldn't get the tornado instead

If you decide to get the tornados the first choice to make is black vs non-black (or at least non-10, 12 or 19)

If the former your safest choice is bison (so comfortable but grainy) or LUC (which is reliable standard shiny and thick baller material).
CUBS/CUL might turn out spectacular or might turn out butt ugly it's a gamble.

If the latter (light colour) you can't get CUL/LUC anyway, and SBUC is awful, so your best choice is CUBS or possibly bison (I've got an awesome pair in white)

I like the standard 2601 tornado over the broad toed one. It's a beautiful shape . But it's s a bit more dressy elegant looking though so if you're going for the homeless peasant look with lots of frayed stacks then get the 2521SX (or whatever it is)
But you already have the guidi/a1923 for that

Never owned kangaroo nor drips nor workboots so can't comment on that. None of them suit my wardrobe but they are pretty cool/iconic

@skeen7908 I have sbuc in black, why do you say it's awful? It's as thick as Luc. You meant Cubs which is the reverse.

Have a couple on order. I was at CCP's Milan workshop last month where I picked the leathers and models. Pictures when they arrive....

Actually yours look great, but all I have seen in real life are dull flat and lifeless

Like this

http://m.ebay.com/itm/CAROL-CHRISTIAN-POELL-OBJECT-DYED-CCP-Derbies-Shoes-SZ-8-Fits-Like-43-/231796714802?nav=SEARCH

Also those side zips at shelter

I used to own these

Maybe yours is from a different source? Or you Polish/condition them well
Post some more photos of nice SBUC wink.gif

CUBS can look great though
