Boston: high-end Italian restaurant?

In my experience you are tempting fate. Assuming that your companion is Italian and not Italy, you would be better off taking her for any other kind of food. No matter how good it is, I guarantee that you will hear, at least once, "it is good, but it is not really Italian".
Prezza is good enough, but food in Boston is not really terrific. I have heard from somebody (I don't remember who) that Vinny's at Night is the best Italian in Boston but it is hard to find.

Your destination is North End. Look up best places on Citysearch.com, all based on reviews from customers.
She will not be dissapointed since in Italy it is even harder to find really good food. Most of the places are catering to tourists, thus one has to know real, local, small joint to try real Italian food there.
IMO, Italians in US are so stuck in their ways that they cook just like their grand mas. While Italy is tourist Disneyland nowadays and everyhting has been optimised to extract profit from visitors.

For the best Italian food in Boston I would recommend Mama Maria in North Square of the North End. Call John McGee the owner at 617-523-0077 and tell him Gary Drinkwater suggested you try him.

I would recommend Sage in the North End. I am not sure what is on the menu right now, but have had some great agnolotti in brown butter, rabbit, and duck dinners there. Not to mention they have the best gnocchi IMO in town.

You should travel to Italy to appreciate what a gawdawful, overpriced shi'ite they feed tourists there
. Chances are you'd find better made Italian dishes here. BTW, what's the verdict on Strega ? I hear they've been promoting the piss outta that joint with Soprano's cast and everything

Most of the Italians that I know request steakhouses when they come here. Unless they are here for a prolonged period of time and miss a taste of home.
Where is she from in Italy? Will she be looking for Northern or Southern Italian cuisine?
As far as high end goes what are you looking for? Exotic meats like wild boar and truffles or maybe an extensive wine list? White glove type atmosphere or just excellent foods?
I'm not trying to be a pain but I'm just trying to narrow your search.

As I stated, we already went to Cantina Italiana...and since you asked she's from the south (Palermo), but all Italian food is good.
