... except when said alcoholic without self-control nulls it on the first day by going out and buying booze, and possibly driving afterwards to repeat the cycle, and having it all go to shit from there. +1 on why, though.

Only good if your are, as already said, an alcoholic.

Even if you personally do not drink alcohol, it's always good to be able to offer some to guests.

Well if you personally don't believe in alcohol consumption then I think people would understand you not being able to offer them a beer. I grew up in a house with absolutely no alcohol and it was never an issue, my aunt and uncle just brought their own wine when they came to visit.

Always have a well stocked bar. Dont much care for drinking by myself (except a tasty beer with dinner), but when my friends come over I always have plenty of high quality booze and at least a few homebrews laying around.

why? hmm.. dunno so i don't drink it all i guess or trying to stay healthier. i don't have people over as much. can't you just buy when people plan to come over for dinner? or do you mean the spontaneous buddy chilling in your place wanting a brewsky? i had a well stocked bar in college with a lot of my dad and grandpa's drinking paraphernalia. friends never seemed to leave. some would be passed out on my couch. i'm not so interested in that kinda activity anymore. i try to drink only with dinner mostly. i actually still have most of the shakers/ champagne stuff so i'm thinking if i want to buy a small bar for my apartment.

Good idea if you want to consume alcohol. Bad idea if you do or should not.
