Study says Jennifer Love Hewitt Worst Actress Of The Past 25 Years

It's impossible to convert the subjective experience of artistry into an objective number-crunching ranking system. But that hasn't stopped people from trying. Slate.com recently sifted through Rotten Tomatoes, the popular website that aggregates all the reviews of a film and grades them on a binary "fresh"/"rotten" critical scale, in an attempt to come up with the actors and actresses with the best track records in onscreen greatness. Get this: According to the study, Jennifer Love Hewitt has the worst track record of any movie actress in Hollywood. The conclusion derives from the fact that Hewitt has never starred in a film to earn a "fresh" rating.

When asked to comment, Hewitt released a statement to EW: "Clearly, I need to learn French and go to Paris to make some French films, since those seem to be the favorites of critics. And do they give trophies for this?" That's a reference to the fact that, according to the study, the Best Actor of the last 25 years is Daniel Auteuil. You have to admit, the study does seem a bit strange: According to the Rotten Tomatoes metrics, the greatest American actor is John Ratzenberger because he's had voice roles in every single Pixar film. That's kind of like arguing that Shia LaBeouf is the most popular actor of the last decade because he starred in three Transformerses and one Indiana Jones.

You could argue that it's just plain inaccurate to judge an actor purely on the quality of the movies they starred in: Anna Faris has starred in a whole assortment of bad movies, but there's no way you can call her a bad actress; Nicolas Cage has basically only starred in bad movies in the last decade, but he's almost always interesting. Putting all these other arguments aside, Jennifer Love Hewitt starred in Can't Hardly Wait, which we can all certainly agree is at least "Fresh."

That study is solely based on professional entertainment critics reviews of theatrical movies. Unfortunately, she never did a single movie praised by the most popular professional entertainment critics. That study is by no means a measure of a persons performance. Besides, rotten tomatoes and their business partners, slate.com, have a mediocre at best (most likely poor) reputation anyway. Otherwise, there are tons and tons of actresses who would be labeled the worst actress since 1985 long before Jennifer Love Hewitt. Among them: Denise Richards, Shannon Elizabeth, Jennifer Lopez, Tara Reid, Pam Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Janet Jackson (though she is a first rate singer), the Knowles sisters (Beyonce and Solange, who I don't think are great singers), Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson (who is also not a great singer), Kristin Stewart, Paris Hilton (if you can call her an actress), to name a few (okay, to name several) and way too many others to mention. In all fairness, Hewitt got nominated for a Golden Globe for best actress in a mini series or made for TV movie for The Client List. She will most likely get an award nomination or two or a few for The Lost Valentine and the episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit titled Behave that she guest starred on back on Wednesday, September 29th, 2010. And Ghost Whisperer and Party of Five were very successful TV Series' (and continue to do incredibly well in syndication on TV and in video rentals and sales). Plus, she has three or four movies and three TV Series' in development that have much more potential to be very successful than half of the most successful movies and TV Series' out there. I should also mention that her book The Day I Shot Cupid (which is actually a pretty good read; yes, I have my own copy) is number 8 on the New York Times best seller list and has an average rating of three out of four or four out of five stars depending on the source. She has more books in development as well (with more potential to be very successful than half of the most successful books out there). So, as of right now, it isn't all bad with Ms. Hewitt (far from it, actually).

Confession: I sometimes watch The Ghost Whisperer solely because of JLH's boobs.

I'm surprised Tagutcow hasn't chimed in yet. He grew up with her in a way.

I watched an episode from when she was pretty fat and noticed that they never put anything below her chest in the frame. Every shot was a crop of her bewbs & face.

What an odd thing to say. I don't think I've ever really seen anything she's been in, except for part of "Can't Hardly Wait" on when it showed on TV. Really, the only TV I've even watched since ca 2004 (She Spies, Gilmore Girls) has been 24, some SNL, Cash Cab, Clean House, and Seinfeld reruns.

Is OxxfordSJLINY the guy who, in the past, insisted on calling her "JLH"?

Jennifer Aniston a lot worse.

Jenn Love did this Hallmark type movie where she played a financially strapped housewife, husband out of work, that went to work at a local "massage parlor" where the girls serviced the local police chiefs, politico's, town husbands etc. A lot of lingerie shots of her and other broads, very, very sexy. She of course became the most popular masseuse in the parlor and was rolling in the dough. But then one of the other broads found religion, snitched on the parlor and JLo's husband saw her (on TV at a bar with his friends) being brought out of the parlor in handcuffs and sexy lingerie. A true triumph of American Cinema.

I totally would watch this, do you remember the title?

My coworker told me about this article yesterday. It prompted me to pull up her filmography, and, man, JLH has been in some piles. IIRC, the only thing she's been in that I liked at all was Can't Hardly Wait, but I haven't seen it in years, so I may well have aged out of enjoying even that.

The Client List

A former beauty queen is forced to take a job at a massage parlor when her family faces foreclosure on their home after her husband suffers an injury that keeps him from working. Unfortunately for her she soon learns that her clients expect more than a rubdown

I watch ghost whisperer with my wife, it's our "couples TV time". I like it.

We watched the Client List together. We got different things out of the story.

I don't know why I associate you with her so much. It might be because I've seen you praise her in other threads ("Brunette Appreciation", maybe?). Either way, I don't believe that you didn't follow Party of Five when it was on or the two Last Summer films.

I also endorse Can't Hardly Wait, which is actually well above average for the genre. That movie alone precludes Love from being the worse actress of the past 25 years. I freely admit my bias; I am one of five people who regularly watched Time Of Your Life.
