Sometimes, at night I'll put a chunk of ginger root through the garlic press into my teapot and brew a pot of rooibos or honeybush tisane for a good hour in it. With a dollop of honey, it is great, very relaxing. I tried this Pu-Erh from Upton...I spat it out and threw away the sample and never ventured into that territory again!

Either/or, depending on my mood. I like coffee with cream only; my tea, "straight"--either green and cold (sure, with boba sometimes), or loose-leaf jasmine or earl grey hot.

Edit: isn't cafe au lait (at least at Du Monde) 1/3 milk, 2/3 coffee?

Oh by the way how many of you forego coffee for tea as a morning thing? I used to drink coffee until it began to stain my teeth, now I strictly drink caffeinated tea. Yum. What about you guys?

I'm to the point where I need to have to coffee to start my morning off right. What started off as 1 or 2 cups of coffee a week has metastasized into an every day ritual. On one hand, I like the caffeine boost I get, but on the other, I'm starting to have some concern about my teeth being stained and the amount of caffeine I'm consuming on a daily basis. I'm only drinking 2 cups (less than 20oz day for sure).

Thanks for the reviving my thread.

It looks like tea also does the staining to my teeth too. However my semiannual trips to the dentist for cleaning takes care of that. I drink coffee only on weekends now. I like it but definitely not enough to switch to a daily thing. It's feels good with a hang over, some sports on and weekend WSJ stolen from my neighbor.

Snaps, I didn't even see that the last post was in '06. I brush 3 times a day and floss so I don't think I have a high risk of having stained teeth. Been thinking about whitening though, but just haven't gotten around to it. I'm inclined to try crest because it's easiest thing to try.

Back to the coffee...

It's a lifesaver for me now. How else would I manage to go to college, work, and have a social life??

Coffee in the morning, green tea in the afternoon and in the evening. Green tea stains teeth like crazy, so I brush 3 times a day to keep them half-decent

Is there a way to not stain my teeth besides not drinking coffee/tea, but mainly coffee?

hahaha knock on wood.

Is tea with creamer, or milk, any good? I'm tempted to try it, but would really be disappointed if I don't like it.

Chai tea is great. Make friends with an Indian person.

I only drink coffee/tea once every few weeks. Unless I'm exhausted or frozen, I've never been interested.

That depends on the type of tea. Heavy black teas, like breakfast blends are good with milk. Darjeelings and green teas though...no way.

Creamer is strictly for coffee.

As a rule, I don't add milk to my tea, and I drink a lot of tea. A few weeks ago, though, I tried adding a small amount of milk to a Darjeeling and it was pretty good. It felt like a more natural combination than adding milk to something like sencha or oolong.
