Alden MTO Forum Group Buy - Page 66

Would anyone be interested in any of the following MTO styles:

  • Short-wing blucher, dark brown calfskin, dark edge trim, commando or flex welt (waterlock) double sole, barrie last
  • Short-wing blucher, tan or walnut calfskin, brass eyelets, dark edge trim, commando or flex welt double sole, barrie last
  • Split toe blucher (stock style 962), walnut calfskin, flex welt (waterlock) double sole, aberdeen last

Realize the thread is stagnant but I'll put in interest on virtually any indy on commando sole. If one of these actually took off, would we be getting any kind of discount considering we're bypassing the retailers?

^ you can't bypass a retailer for a group MTO. The only way to get one of these off the ground is to work with a retailer that has a good relationship with Alden, and even then it's next to impossible. Our last attempt has been sitting with Alden DC for months, and we don't know when or if Alden will even confirm the order. Once the order is confirmed, it will almost surely be a 2+ year wait.

I'm pretty sure Dayton Boots does groupbuys. We should hit them up instead.

Indy boots on commando soles are pretty easy to find. Leffot takes preorders for the cowhide and natural CXL versions regularly, Leather Soul stocks a brown chromexcel version regularly, Unionmade will have special Indy makeups on commando soles regularly, the Shoe Mart stocks black and color 8 cordovan models on commando soles, etc. Follow the Alden thread for more info

Group buys have been rare over the past year or so. Your best bet to ensure you get your size in a shoe is to participate in the various preorders by retailers or to call up an Alden branded retailer (DC, NY, SF) and reserve a pair in your size

Hey All-

 

i am trying to see if we can get enough people to do an MTO for the following boot.  

 

Dark Brown Suede Cap Toe

Barrie Last

Double leather soles

360 degree double stitch reverse welt

Eyelets and speed hooks 

 

this was a makeup from Moulded Shoe a few years ago.  The only change I would prefer would be a commando sole and all eyelets but that is not a deal breaker for me.  I figure not changing anything should make getting this confirmed easier.  I am also hoping that since it is not shell cordovan the wait will not be forever, however, I have heard that it may still be up to two years.

 

to my knowledge no other retailer has a similar makeup in the pipeline. Moulded Shoe does do a perforated cap toe on the modified last but it is mostly sold out and not on reorder at the moment. I would first try Rafael at Moulded shoe since they originally did the makeup. If he cannot do it I will try Alden DC as I am local.

I just got those this week.   Great boot.   The Earth Chamois is a black/gray color out of the box.  I believe it will lighten up over time.  I would like to try and this suede version moving.
