Hey guys,

I want to check in with you on our Obscura preorder and keep you updated. Last week, I personally visited Alden to say hello and talk about some new projects.

I received an update on Ravello. Long story short, there is not going to be any forthcoming leather any time soon. All of the specialty colors are rare these days. Whiskey is coming every now and then. Cigar had a decent delivery a while ago but nothing recently, and Ravello is totally gone. There's no inventory at Alden, none at Horween, and no delivery date scheduled for it. And there's a pile of backorders against whatever skins they do have come in.

As you may know, we ran a Brixton boot Ravello preorder almost 18 months ago. I still don't have them, and I have no date that I can tell anyone for them.

With that in mind, I want to give you guys the option to back out of the preorder. Alden hasn't confirmed it yet, nothing is set in stone, and I can still submit a revision. I don't want to keep your money locked up forever while you're under the impression that the boots are coming in a year or so. It's probably going to be longer than that. Like two years. At least.

I've got three options to offer everyone:

1. Stay on the preorder with the understanding of this leather scarcity and the potential lead time

2. I can give you a full refund of your deposit within the next week or two. I can't refund your original purchase directly, but I can send you the funds via paypal.

3. I love this boot. I'm going to order a size run of it in Burnished Tan Calfskin as well. Same specs as the Ravello, and lead time shouldn't be a problem for delivery before next Fall. If you want to change your order to the Calfskin, I can do that for you.

When the Calfskins come in, any guys who stay on the Ravello preorder will also have first crack at the stock in that leather too.

If you don't contact me, then we'll keep the preorder as it stands. If you want to cancel or change it, drop me a PM. I'm out of the country this week, but I can catch up with everything right after I return.

Thanks for the detailed write-up Mike. I knew Ravello had become scarce, but it's crazy to hear that it basically doesn't exist right now. I'm still on the pre-order for the Brixton boot, and I'm holding on to that for as long as it takes. If I dropped out out, who knows how long it will be before any of us get another crack at a Ravello shoe!

Agreed; thanks for the details, Mike. It's always useful to have more info. I, for one, am happy to wait and stay on the Ravello Obscura preorder. Happy to wait for as long as needed, considering how stellar this boot is going to be.

And Beatlegeuse is spot on; who knows when I could get my hands on Ravello again. Worth the wait.

I'm thinking about changing my sizing... since I went the same size on the Grant as I did on the Barrie, it's making me doubt my original choice to go TTS on the Leydon.

Yes, definitely. I'm sure a few people will drop out, so we'll have some slots open if you want to join. I'll be out of town this week, but drop me a PM after that - I'll submit a revised order to Alden on 6/15.

And for anyone who stays on the preorder, don't worry about losing any time - submitting a chance before the confirmation won't affect out standing in the queue at all.

Fall 2013, although there's a good chance that we can actually get them in the Spring. I just don't want to promise anything that I can't deliver, so Fall '13 is probably the worst-case scenario.

Option 4: switch to whiskey shell?

I think this would look great, perhaps even better than ravello. I think people gravitated towards this make up because all the perforations really pop against the original tan calfskin obcsura make up, and I think this effect would be really accentuated in whiskey.

just a thought really...
