I think the pull tabs are cool, but am pretty indifferent. I think those black fleece ones are awesome...

What do you guys think about which part should be shell/pebble? Eyelets?

Here's another example of smooth/pebble.

Herring Tricker's.

Ah, thank you.  I'm down with tabs.

another example of pull tabs, though i don't think alden would do something along these lines. they are cool though.

My feeling is that the luster of the shell should be showcased on the less busy part of the shoe, i.e. the vamp, to create a stronger and more refined contrast. No brogueing on the shell would make room for some "merihari" (a Japanese term meaning something like "breathing space").

This Trickers shoe just looks too busy to me.

Agreed...and the welting doesn't help much either in that make up, though i see what they were going for. Thoughts on eyelets?

PM me if you want to get on this and i'll start a list!

Depending on the last, I may have to get in on this.

This makeup has tons of potential.

Sorry double post.

so, here's what im proposing

Last: Barrie, Leydon, or Grant
Vamp: Black Shell
Bottom/lace stays: black pebble grain (NOT alpine grain)
welt: 360 reverse/storm welt
Sole: commando

other options:
eyelets
pull tabs/locker tab

Sounds good.
I vote for:
-Leydon last
-Brass eyelets
-a small brooks brothers style tab if possible, if not no big deal.

I'm probably not able to get in on this, but I will say that I love it. The contrast, the commando sole/welt combo. It's the works. A really awesome black shoe and I pretty much never like black shoes (which is nice since I have little need to wear them for work, etc).

i hear ya...but for my part while i find my budget for aldens isn't great, i think the mto programs we do here are actually more economical in that a) they spread out the payments so you're not dropping 500-700 at any given time and B) it prevents impulse buys on similar makeups as you're already pot committed to the pre-order. Case in point, the ravello boot at leffot...i'm waiting for the MTO we did here with Epaulet so i'm no longer tempted!

i'm ok with this, minus the brass eyelets. I'd be more down for matched...but i dunno if i like them on this jcrew make up. this one is alpine grain too, so ignore that quality.
